the Session of wireless data transmission through 5G networks using technology of distribution of a range together with Ericsson and Swisscom
The important stage in promotion of technologies 5G was reached in Switzerland on October 31, 2019. This day the first session of wireless data transmission using runtime allocation of a range (DSS) through 5G network was successfully held. On November 15, 2019 the Qualcomm Technologies company which participated in this event together with Ericsson and Swisscom reported about it.
This the first a 5G connection by air using runtime allocation of a range which was performed by the Swiss operator became the next step in development of standard 5G. In September Ericsson and Qualcomm Technologies for the first time in the world performed a data transmission session on technology 5G using Ericsson Spectrum Sharing technology according to specifications 3GPP for the lower frequency range of FDD. Partners in an ecosystem together with Swisscom continued cooperation in deployment of 5G networks already across all Switzerland.
The Swisscom operator in April, 2019 started in Europe commercial network of fifth generation (5G) in the range of 3.6 GHz and continues promotion to the purpose. It is planned that by the end of 2019 the network will become available to 90% of the population of Switzerland.
The technology of distribution of a range of Ericsson Spectrum Sharing (ESS) allows Swisscom company to use most effectively existing frequency range and infrastructure for clients of 4G networks and a 5G depending on their requirements. Thanks to distribution of a range the Swisscom operator will provide to the clients a universal covering of a 5G networks so soon as far as it is possible, notes the head of program 5G of Swisscom company Patrick Weibel

The Ericsson Spectrum Sharing technology applied in the system of a radio communication of Ericsson Radio System provides cost-efficient and soft junction from 4G to a 5G through the whole country by a software update of network. The solution will dynamically distribute a range between channels 4G and 5G depending on the tekushcheynagruzki. Switching between channels happens for milliseconds thanks to what losses of resources of a range are minimized and the maximum end user performance is provided. This solution is compatible to all 5G smartphones supporting the FDD mode and other devices based on a mobile 5G platform of Qualcomm Snapdragon which supports fixed function of separation of a range.
Provision of services of a 5G in the territory of the whole country will lay the foundation for the next stage of development of technology — creations of autonomous architecture 5G (SA). The standalone mode of work will become a key factor for providing additional opportunities of a 5G in the future and supports of new types of communication for the crucial industries (Mission Critical Communication), the Industry 4.0 and also other applications.
Connection setup of data transmission on technology 5G New Radio together with Ericsson
On September 20, 2019 it became known that Qualcomm Technologies and Ericsson company announced achievement of the next milestone in development of standard 5G. Partners set connection of data transmission on technology 5G New Radio (NR), according to global specifications 3GPP 5G of NR Release 15 in a standalone mode of work (SA). Connection with the frequency range of n41 was set in Ericsson laboratory using commercial base stations of a 5G from the Ericsson Radio System portfolio, the software for autonomous NR and the solution Cloud Core for a 5G.
The companies used the mobile test device in a smartphone format equipped with a 5G modem of Snapdragon X55 of the second generation and the solution Qualcomm RF Front-End (RFFE). Installation of connection showed readiness of both companies to support the second stage of commercialization of a 5G. The second stage means deployment of autonomous networks in which 5G network will become basic for providing additional opportunities of a 5G, including the guaranteed quality of service and cutting of network necessary for support of new business models in such areas as industrial Internet of Things (Industrial IoT) and cloud services of the corporate level.
Together with Qualcomm Technologies we reached one more important milestone on the way to transition to an autonomous 5G networks. It shows that network technologies 5G continue to develop and that we strengthen a 5G ecosystem. Service providers are already able to provide advantages of technology 5G, and now we take further steps completely to realize 5G potential in service of users and the industry, notes Per Narvinger, the head of network division of Ericsson

Opening in Europe laboratories for work with 5G networks
On July 24, 2019 the Qualcomm Technologies company announced opening of a test object for work with 5G networks in Europe. The laboratory intended for complex studying and testing of opportunities of wireless networks in the millimetric range (mmWave) which is located in Qualcomm Technologies research center in Farnborough, Great Britain became it. In this laboratory OEM manufacturing of devices and the European mobile operators will be able to test and select optimal adjustments of network for different solutions with support of mmWave. The Sony company will use the first laboratory — it will direct precommercial samples of the 5G devices there.
As noted in Qualcomm Technologies, in premises and at the enterprises millimetric range is capable to provide high capacity, peak throughput, multigigabit data transfer rates and the minimum delay for smartphones, the connected notebooks and other devices. With deployment of 5G networks the capacity of each cell of a mobile network which will allow to service the bigger number of users and with bigger efficiency will increase, than it was possible in 4G networks. Therefore use of millimetric range in combination with frequencies up to 6 GHz provides high-quality preserving of communication and data transfer rate in premises with a high density of connections, for example, at stadiums and in shopping centers.
"This object will become the next deposit Qualcomm Technologies to researches of technologies 5G. The attention of the industry is concentrated on deployment in Europe of 5G networks in the range up to 6 GHz, but our laboratory will give to clients the chance also to see and study advantages of networks of millimetric range. Developments of Qualcomm Technologies and its partners are the cornerstone of devices and infrastructure of networks of fifth generation which are unrolled across the whole Europe, but it only the beginning. In the future networks of millimetric range and range up to 6 GHz will be shared to give to users absolutely new opportunities", 'Enrico Salvatori, the senior vice president and the head of Qualcomm Technologies in EMEA region noted' |
The laboratory became result of work of Qualcomm directed to commercialization of 5G networks in Europe. According to representatives of Qualcomm, NR 5G network on an object completely conforms to requirements of the document 3GPP Release 15 and in the future will allow to work with technologies and standards which will be entered into Release 16 and further. In it reference Next-Gen Core 5G network, base stations of gNodeB and mobile test devices based on Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 and X55 modems with the built-in RF transceiver, the RFFE module and antenna elements is used. With the output of the Snapdragon X55 Qualcomm modem took the next step forward to global implementation of 5G networks. Snapdragon X55 supports ranges to 6 GHz and mmWave that simplifies for OEM manufacturing development of the devices designed to help users worldwide fully to estimate advantages of networks of fifth generation, including multigigabit data transfer rates and the minimum delay.
In addition, the laboratory will allow Qualcomm Technologies to test new designs of 3GPP Release 16 and the subsequent versions before their standardization, to improve algorithms and technologies 5G for further performance improvement of networks, to test and show possibilities of boundary calculations with short delay, for example, in the field of expanded reality (XR) and also to show possibilities of 5G networks yet not available in large quantities.
Developments of Qualcomm in the field of development of a 5G include basic researches, creation of new technologies for networks of fifth generation and also development and testing of prototypes of devices with support 5G NR (New Radio). For July, 2019 the company already presented two generations of a 5G modems, the complete solution "modem antenna" and own RFFE module.
