2022: Creation of a company in Europe
In early February 2022, Qualcomm announced the creation of XR Labs in Europe to further develop the community of developers of augmented and virtual reality tools, as well as technologies for metaverse.
Qualcomm focuses on project development, design and development of key technologies such as hand tracking and gesture management, 3D systems and localization, multi-user experience and image recognition. The company intends to deploy several laboratories in Europe for the development of extended reality (XR) projects to make them available to the general public. New facilities will be located in six cities in Europe, and in the future it is planned to launch in other places of the EU.
Qualcomm's goal is to help develop lightweight and graceful glasses for wearing on the head and make technology available to developers through Snapdragon Spaces XR Developer Platform. The company's management hopes that this will change the daily life of consumers, retail, industry, enterprises, education and health care. Qualcomm is expanding its boundaries and laying its course to everyday use thanks to the constant improvement of research and development, the press release said.
XR capabilities are significant. Combining this with a wealth of European research and development experience and leadership in the field of XR, we see that European laboratories can make a great contribution to the development of expanded reality around the world. Ingenious minds are already working at a rapid pace to realize our vision and bring many revolutionary opportunities for all consumers, health care and industry. These laboratories will complement our already significant presence in Europe, said Qualcomm Senior Vice President and President Enrico Salvatori. |
The company noted that these laboratories will be the key to creating an XR portfolio that includes best-in-class platforms, software and technology functions, and will also provide it to all developers, helping to create a metaverse through Snapdragon Spaces.[1]
