2021: Headset Development Toolkit Announcement

In November 2021, Qualcomm released a set of tools for developing augmented reality applications. The platform is called Snapdragon Spaces.

It allows you to create 3D applications for AR glasses from scratch or add appropriate functionality to existing Android applications to create a single multi-screen environment that includes a two-dimensional smartphone screen and the real 3D world. Various resources, including documentation, code samples, knowledge bases, and tools, are also offered to accelerate development.

Qualcomm unveils toolkit for developing headset AR applications

Qualcomm Technologies has opened pilot access to Snapdragon Spaces to creators of innovative AR applications, including Felix & Paul Studios, OverlayMR, TRIPP, Tiny Rebel Games, NZXR, forwARdgame, Resolution Games and Trigger Global.

Several smartphone manufacturers, including Lenovo, Motorola, Oppo and Xiaomi, have already expressed a desire to use Snapdragon Spaces in 2022. The first commercial implementation of Snapdragon Spaces will be Lenovo ThinkReality A3 smart glasses in conjunction with the Motorola smartphone.

By November 2021, Qualcomm Technologies is also working with telecom operators Deutsche Telekom, NTT Docomo and T-Mobile to scale and market AR glasses based on smartphones with Snapdragon Spaces support. T-Mobile U.S. and Deutsche Telekom will support Snapdragon Spaces with joint T-Mobile Accelerator innovative programs designed for hubraum resident developers, Deutsche Telekom technical incubator.

Qualcomm also announced the acquisition of assets from HINS SAS and its Clay AIR subsidiary, including tools for hand tracking and gesture recognition. Partnership with Wiktitude will open Qualcomm access to Snapdragon Spaces for 150 thousand developers registered on this platform.[1]
