2022: Program Launch
As it became known at the end of June 2022, in the coming academic year National Research Nuclear University NRNU MEPhI it will launch the first educational program in quantum technologies in Russia. It was developed by the Institute of Laser and Plasma Technologies (LaPlaza Institute) MEPhI with the support JV "Kvant" and scientific support Russian Quantum Center and MIAN named after. V.A. Steklova
It is noted that the program was formed "from scratch" taking into account the interests of modern quantum science and is aimed at training quantum engineers, as well as broad specialists with fundamental scientific training and competencies in using the achievement of science in the development of applied technologies.
From the second year, students will have the opportunity to undergo laboratory and production practice at the sites of NRNU MEPhI and partner organizations.
The educational program includes such disciplines as quantum computational algorithms, topology, mathematical statistics and machine learning, dynamic chaos, quantum sensorics, quantum optics, laser physics, photonics, linear algebra, etc. Also, the future quantum engineer is required to be able to work with special research equipment.
The program is curated by Yana Lyakhova, senior lecturer at the Department of Theoretical Nuclear Physics at the LaPlaza Institute of NRNU MEPhI, and Kirill Lakhmansky, head of the RCC scientific group for creating a quantum computer based on cold ions, is the academic leader.
Boris Verbenko, head of educational projects at Kvant joint venture, noted that the launch of the Quantum Engineering educational program will contribute to the implementation of the roadmap for the development of quantum computing, approved by the Government of the Russian Federation, as well as the staffing of the emerging quantum industry.
