2025: Product Announcement

ZiO-Podolsk JSC, part of the engineering division of the State Corporation Rosatom"," completed the production of the reactor plant "RITM-400" for the nuclear icebreaker "Russia" of the project 10510 "Leader." The newest reactor plant is called Ilya Muromets and has a thermal capacity of 315 MW, making it the most powerful marine reactor plant in the world. This became known on May 20, 2025.

According to "Mediapaluba," the command for the completion of work on the manufacture of the first RITM-400 was given by the chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matvienko and the general director of the state corporation Rosatom Alexei Likhachev. The ceremony was broadcast in the Federation Council, where on May 20 the exhibition exposition "Rosatom" was opened for the 80th anniversary of the nuclear industry.

Russia has released the world's most powerful ship reactor for nuclear icebreakers

Alexey Likhachev, General Director of Rosatom State Corporation, noted that the completion of the manufacture of the RITM-400 reactor is a significant event for the icebreaker fleet, Rosatom and the whole country. According to him, the reactor installations of the next generation nuclear-powered icebreaker Rossiya will allow him to prick ice more than 4 meters thick. It was decided to give the names of the Russian heroes - "Ilya Muromets" and "Dobryni Nikitich" to each of the two reactors that will endow the nuclear-powered ship with unprecedented power.

The design and layout of the reactor plant RITM-400 created on the basis of maximum unification with reactor RITM-200, which has proven itself well on nuclear icebreakers of project 22220. It is also made according to a two-circuit scheme, with four steam generators integrated into the core housing.

The main difference between the RITM-400 RP is an increase in the reactor power by half, which will allow the project 10510 nuclear-powered ship to overcome ice up to 4 meters thick for conducting large-tonnage vessels. The planned capacity on shafts with two reactor plants is 120 MW.[1]
