2025: Product Announcement

At the end of September 2025, the American company Morphic Medical announced the release of the Reset implant, designed for the therapy of metabolic disorders. The article is particularly useful in the treatment of obesity and diabetes mellitus.

Reset is a special device for duodenal bypass surgery. The implant is installed on an outpatient basis using an endoscopic procedure, that is, without incisions. After insertion, the article is fixed by means of a special anchor mechanism in the upper part of the small intestine. This creates a physical barrier between the receptors in the intestinal wall and food, which helps normalize the hormonal background.

Intestinal Implant for Obesity and Diabetes Mellitus Entered the Market

Clinical studies conducted have shown that Reset causes changes similar to those observed with gastric bypass surgery. The use of the implant improves insulin resistance and glycemic control, and also contributes to weight loss in patients with type 2 diabetes and obesity. At the same time, the risks of developing cardiovascular diseases are reduced.

Unlike gastric bypass surgery, the Reset installation procedure is reversible. The device can be used for up to 12 months, after which it is extracted endoscopically. The first operation to install the implant on September 19, 2025 was performed by British doctors from King's College Hospital. The procedure took less than 30 minutes and was successful without any complications.

Reset provides substantial and long-term improvements in terms of weight loss and blood sugar control. The implant is installed during a safe, minimally invasive and completely reversible procedure that takes less than half an hour, says Mike Gutteridge, President and CEO of Morphic Medical.[1]
