Detailed observation and maximum informativity: high technologies on the Resource-P satellite No. 5
To obtain high-detail observation data and spectral characteristics of any objects on Earth, to create three-dimensional models of the terrain allows service and target onboard equipment developed by specialists of RCC Progress JSC and Holding JSC Russian Space Systems (RKS) for the Resource-P satellite No. 5. The spacecraft was successfully launched into orbit on December 25, 2024 from the Baikonur cosmodrome with the Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle.
Resource-P No. 5, created by RCC Progress JSC, became the fifth satellite of the space system of the same name. Like other devices of this series, it will provide detailed observation of the Earth, monitor the environment, study natural resources, search for mineral deposits, and also work in the interests of the International Charter on Space and Major Disasters (International Charter on Space and Major Disasters) to promptly provide high-precision data to the Russian Emergencies Ministry and foreign partners.
"Resource-P" is a series of spacecraft that, along with hydrometeorological Meteor-M"," radar "Condor-FKA and other" large "devices, forms the reference segment of the Russian the space system for remote sensing of the Earth (DZZ), primarily aimed at information support of state needs and consumers in various. industries economies
The special characteristics of the target equipment of the Resource-P satellite No. 5 favorably distinguish its capabilities as part of the world orbital grouping of the DZZ. Most of the optoelectronic devices are the development of the OPTEX Research and Production Center, which is part of Russian Space Systems JSC.
The Sangur-1U information reception and conversion system is a key element of the main high-resolution Geoton-L1 shooting equipment created by the OPTEX Research and Production Center. It allows highly detailed shooting of the earth's surface with a resolution of 0.7 m in panchromatic mode and multispectral shooting with a resolution of 2.1 m in six narrow channels of the visible and near infrared at the same time. In one span, the camera is capable of capturing a 38.6 km wide strip.
An equally important component of the Resource payload is the complex of wide-grip multispectral equipment, consisting of two cameras that transmit observation data in 6 spectral bands at once in the capture band up to 180 km with a resolution of 12 m in panchromatic mode and 24 m in multispectral.
The hyperspectral surveillance equipment of the Resurs-P spacecraft No. 5 is built on the basis of photodetector devices created by OPTEX specialists based on high-speed specialized frame matrices of visible and near-infrared spectral ranges. The system can shoot simultaneously in 96-200 spectral channels with a resolution of 30 m.
A series of spacecraft "Resource-P" is the flagship of the Russian orbital group DZZ. With the launch of Resource-P No. 5, we get additional opportunities to meet the growing demand for highly detailed surveillance data. High-tech devices and innovative solutions allow you to receive data for detailed mapping in one pass, as well as a set of medium-resolution data, including information on the spectra of the underlying surface. This makes it possible to develop and provide more services and demanded geo-information products to our consumers, including for solving a set of tasks in the interests of agriculture, monitoring forest use processes, subsoil use and other activities. A space system consisting of two Resource-P spacecraft operates in orbit as of December 2024, which allows observing an arbitrary point of the Earth 2 times per interval of 3 days. The further development of the system is planned due to spacecraft of the Resurs-PM type, which should ensure an increase in consumer surveillance characteristics, including, first of all, spatial resolution indicators, said the director of projects for the creation of DZZ systems, deputy general designer of the RKS Andrei Emelyanov.

Onboard information and telemetry system BITS2Ts-7M - own development of RKS and is the main part of service equipment "Resurs-P" No. 5. It accumulates, converts, stores and transmits information on the state of onboard complexes, instruments and structural elements of the satellite over the radio communication channel to ground stations.
Also for the satellite, specialists from the Research Institute of Precision Instruments (NII TP, part of the RKS holding) have developed a ground control system, onboard equipment of the command and measurement system and a high-speed radio link.
Onboard equipment of the command and measuring system, built on high-tech solutions and modern components, performs independent control of the satellite without interruptions in communication sessions even with unstable orientation and its rotation. The upgraded high-speed radio link equipment transmits data at speeds up to 600 Mbps, has increased reliability and advanced functionality.
Created with the use of virtualization and scaling technology, the Resource-P ground-based control system of the space system allows you to control satellites from "virtual" flight control centers, ensuring the continuity of technologies for both existing and new types of spacecraft on already created computing power without their refinement.
The operator of the Resurs-P space system is the Scientific Center for Operational Monitoring of the Earth RKS, which ensures the commissioning of the Resurs-P satellite No. 5 into flight operation as part of the group together with Resurs-P No. 4, and also plans their joint work in orbit, receives information on a distributed network of ground stations, forms standard and basic products of the wide range of remote access and provides them to consumers using geo-information services.
Business Continuity
High-tech onboard equipment developed by the Russian Space Systems holding (part of the Roscosmos State Corporation) ensures the continuous operation of the Resource-P remote sensing satellite (DZZ) No. 4, launched in March 2024. The spacecraft was successfully commissioned as part of the Russian orbital group DZZ; the operator of "Resource-P" No. 4 is the Scientific Center for Operational Monitoring of the Earth RKS. This was reported to the RKS on June 19, 2024.
All devices created by RKS specialists operate normally and perform functions in full. Most of the targeted optical and electronic equipment "Resource-P" are devices created by the Scientific and Production Center "OPTEX," which became part of JSC "Russian Space Systems" in 2023.
The key of the OPTEX devices is the Sangur-1U information reception and conversion system, which is part of the Geoton-L1 high-resolution main camera equipment. It allows highly detailed shooting of the earth's surface with a resolution of 0.7 meters in the panchromatic range and multispectral shooting with a resolution of 2.1 m in six narrow subbands at the same time. The width of the strip removed in one span is 38.6 km. During shooting "Sangur-1U" converts continuously moving image of visible range formed by optical-electronic complex into digital electric signal, processes it, compresses it and transmits it to aircraft equipment of high-speed radio link.
An equally important component of the satellite's target equipment is a complex of wide-range multispectral equipment, consisting of two high-resolution cameras that transmit space survey data in 6 spectral bands at once in the capture band up to 180 km with a resolution of 12 meters in black and white shooting and 24 meters in color.
The hyperspectral shooting equipment "Resurs-P" No. 4 also uses an image reception and conversion system. It is based on photodetector devices created by OPTEX specialists based on high-speed specialized personnel matrices of the visible and near infrared range, as well as equipment for controlling and ensuring the temperature regime of the shooting equipment as a whole. The system can capture simultaneously in the 96-216 spectral channels.
Control of all modes of operation of the main optical-electronic equipment, including focusing, calibration and change of light filters, is carried out by the SU-165 control system, also developed by OPTEX specialists.
The spacecraft of the Resource-P series is the flagship of the domestic orbital group DZZ. When creating the target equipment of the new Resource-P, specialists of RCC Progress JSC and RKS used innovative fiber-optic high-speed information transmission lines. This technology has provided us with an important quality - the opportunity to improve the quality of shooting and the volume of transmitted and processed data while reducing the total mass, to create a high-performance popular device with a special set of ultra-high-resolution equipment in combination with multispectral wide-grip and hyperspectral cameras. In addition, with the launch of Resurs-P No. 4, the technology of introducing a new spacecraft into the orbital group without significant refinement and, moreover, without creating a separate ground-based complex for receiving, processing and disseminating information has been developed - these functions are implemented on the basis of the Operator of the space system DZZ of the Unified Geographically Distributed Information System (ETRIS DZZ). " said Andrey EMELYANOV, Director of Projects for the Creation of DZZ Systems, Deputy General Designer of RKS.

The service equipment "Resurs-P" No. 4 is represented by the onboard information and telemetry system BITS2Ts-7M - the own development of the RKS. Its main function is to accumulate, convert, store and transmit information on the state of onboard complexes, instruments and structural elements of the satellite via the radio communication channel to ground stations.
Three more important complexes - a ground control system, onboard equipment of a command and measuring system and a high-speed radio line - were developed by specialists from the Research Institute of Precision Instruments (NII TP, part of the RKS holding).
When upgrading the hardware and software of the Resource-P spacecraft No. 4, we relied on the need to solve the main problems: unification of equipment, manufacturability, reliability, use of a modern element base, preservation and improvement of tactical and technical characteristics. Together with new technologies, design and test methods, this gave us the opportunity to provide truly unique target parameters of the satellite and the space system as a whole, to create a fundamental groundwork for the creation of promising airborne and ground complexes, noted Chief Designer - Deputy General Director of JSC "NII TP" Gleb GOLUBIN.
