2022: Rostec announced the successful use of anti-drone guns in Ukraine
On June 16, 2022, Rostec spoke about the effective use of anti-drone guns as part of a special operation in Ukraine. According to a statement by the state corporation cited by TASS, a variety of electronic warfare systems (EW) successfully pass the "battle test": they jam enemy communication channels, guidance systems, leaving them without "eyes" and "ears."
Electronic warfare systems confirm the ability to effectively combat drones, suppress control and data transmission channels between the operator and the drone, and satellite navigation. Separately, it is worth highlighting wearable anti-UAV guns that are convenient to handle and are especially effective against small drones, copters used by the enemy in large numbers for reconnaissance, Rostec reported. |
What kind of guns to combat unmanned aerial vehicles are used in Ukraine, the state corporation did not specify. Earlier , the Kalashnikov concern (part of Rostec) presented such a gun called REX-2. It is equipped with a replaceable set of modules for suppressing radio and satellite navigation signals for drone control.
It is noted that the gun to combat UAV REX-2 is a more compact version of the REX-1 gun, which is already successfully operated, including by government agencies.
Externally, the REX does look like a gun, but it does not fire cartridges. It fights drones by suppressing radio and satellite navigation signals that nearly all drones use to fly. Thus, the drone is disabled without physically being damaged - the aircraft loses contact with the remote control and lands smoothly.
Within a radius of two kilometers, it drowns out the signals of the American satellite navigation GPS, the Russian GLONASS, the Chinese BeiDou and the European Galileo.[1]
