  Satellite Communications and Navigation      The tabs below provide information about navigation systems used in Russia, as well as unique information about integration companies and their projects.

Wiki Center TAdviser invites the editor of the technology block "Satellite Communication and Navigation."

Companies can register their systems and projects in the TAdviser/Satellite Communications and Navigation directory for free. The partition is in online update mode.

A navigation system is a set of devices that provide navigation (orientation) of an object in space. Navigation systems provide orientation using: maps with video, graphic or text formats; Position with sensors or other external sources autonomous means such as satellite communications and the like; information from other objects. Satellite navigation system is a complex electronic technical system consisting of a set of ground and space equipment designed to determine the location (geographical coordinates and altitude), as well as movement parameters (speed and direction of movement, etc.) for ground, water and air objects. The main elements of the satellite navigation system are:

  • An orbital constellation consisting of several (2 to 30) satellites emitting special radio signals;
  • A ground-based control and monitoring system including units for measuring the current position of satellites and transmitting received information thereon to correct orbit information;
  • Receiving client equipment ("satellite navigators") used to determine coordinates;
  • Optional: Ground-based beacon system to significantly improve coordinate accuracy.
  • Optional: an information radio system for transmitting corrections to users to significantly improve the accuracy of coordinate determination.

Russia ranks third in the number of communication satellites

At the end of 2016, Russia ranks third in the number of communication satellites, possessing 17 spacecraft. The country is inferior in this indicator to France, which has twice as many satellites - 34, as well as to the small state - Luxembourg, which owns 108 devices. This was reported by TASS with reference to the general designer of Gazprom Space Systems, Nikolai Sevastyanov. Japan has 16 communication satellites, in fifth place are the United States and Hong Kong, which each have 11 devices.

The volume of the global space communications market, which has existed for 45 years, is $153 billion with an annual growth of 3%. The main part of it is TV, radio and the Internet - $104 billion. The communication channel segment is estimated at $18 billion, mobile communications - at $3 billion.

What is GPS transport monitoring?

GPS transport monitoring is continuous tracking of your fleet's vehicles. The transport monitoring system allows GPS tracking in real time. GPS equipment installed on a car requests its location from one of the GPS constellation satellites and, online, transmits information to the dispatcher. Such a GPS navigation system made it possible to get from the level of simple control over the movement of vehicles to the level of full tracking of vehicles.

When implementing the GPSGLONASS transport monitoring/monitoring system, in addition to tracking the transport, the fuel level, the condition of the car, its exact coordinates, the time during which the car was idle or in motion and much more are constantly monitored.

Since the signal is in real time, modern transport control systems perform much more functions than just GPS monitoring of cars. Today, by tracking the movement of vehicles, GPS equipment allows the dispatcher to respond quickly in the event of emergency situations.

The dispatcher, in the process of controlling the movement of vehicles, can establish voice communication with the driver, remotely drown out the car's engine and much more. This expansion of transport monitoring capabilities allows you not only to receive information about problems and violations affecting the company's transportation costs, but also to quickly neutralize them.

Installation of GPS/GLONASS vehicle monitoring system for permanent satellite vehicle control

Today, the Russian navigation system based GLONASS on plays an important role in ensuring security at the state level. The modern GLONASS transport monitoring system allows you to control transport using the Russian constellation of satellites. The creation of a constellation of satellites began back in the 80s and includes about 27 satellites. The principle of operation of GLONASS monitoring satellites is similar to the American NAVSTAR GPS system. But, unlike it, it does not require any additional updates after launch.
