2019: Use in the American army
At the beginning of June, 2019 the U.S. Army announced that it is ready to implement the new Mounted Assured PNT Systems (MAPS) GPS system which is, allegedly, impregnable for radio-electronic influence.
The mounted system of the guaranteed positioning, navigation and time synchronization (MAPS) - will come to the 2nd cavalry (motor-infantry) regiment of U.S. Army located in Germany, fall of 2019. It is reported that the army also develops new generation of inertial navigation systems which could be used as spare equipment. Speaking at the C4ISERnet conference in Arlington, the colonel Nicholas Kiutas, noted that the army already began works on deployment of the new program.
Introduction of the new equipment is connected with the growing capacity of Russia in this sphere, the colonel of U.S. Army Nickolas Kioutas said. Began with fall of 2018 of the USA and NATO joint exercises in Norway under the name Trident Juncture to check readiness of the large multinational coalition for the potential military conflict. During the exercise military noticed that signals of GPS were blocked what accused Russia of. In April, 2018 authorities of the USA said that the Russian military "suppress" GPS systems of the unmanned aerial vehicles operating in Syria. GPS, vulnerable to alien influences, can be serious threat for the American and allied troops which depend on this system in everything - from movement of troops before missile control and UAVs.
The U.S. Army already signed the contract with three companies for work on the equipment of MAPS of the second generation. Military did not begin to expose to contractors accurate requirements, and just suggested to provide the most perspective samples. The best will arrive on arms that will allow army to estimate quickly technology and if necessary to improve it.[1]
