SITA BagJourney is the system of service of public baggage. Service provides end-to-end control of passing of baggage using data from different sources.
BagJourney uses SITA services for data transmission about baggage (BagMessage and Type-B) and a global covering which they provide, for providing an exact picture of the current location of baggage independently about that how many airlines or the airports process it. Further a system provides this information in the structured and simple type to airlines and the airports which need to increase service quality of passengers and to reduce costs on land service, at the same time conforming to requirements of the resolution of IATA (The International Air Transport Association, IATA, engl. International Air Transport Association, abbr. IATA) about tracking of baggage.
The baggage is continuously traced and therefore in case of the wrong processing of baggage service allows to return it to the owner quickly.
As data collection is free, BagJourney can become a reference platform of the ready-made solution for the airlines aiming to find a cost-efficient method of accomplishment of the resolution of IATA 753. According to requirements of the resolution of IATA 753, IATA member airlines should keep account of each unit of baggage at the main stages of a route of transportation, including registration, transfer from one carrier to another, unloading and issue on arrival. Airlines also should make manifestos of tracking and exchange data on tracking of baggage with other concerned parties.
SITA BagJourney uses the existing standard messages about information of baggage (BIM) to save statuses of processing of baggage in real time which are transmitted through the web application programming interfaces (API). Service is specially developed for mobile applications where land operators, service staff or passengers can easily read and understand a current status of baggage. Creation of manifestos will also be automated.
BagJourney is integrated with WorldTracer — service of tracking and comparison for the baggage delayed in delivery. This integration allows to trace continuously entering and other baggage even in case of its wrong processing that allows airlines to deny the requests for reimbursement of expenses for incorrectly processed baggage, providing proofs of the innocence.
