2021: Detection of the vulnerability allowing to unblock the smartphone the stranger

Serious vulnerability in Samsung Galaxy Note 20 is detected. It became known on January 7, 2021.

Because of "abnormal behavior" of the fingerprint scanner in smartphones of the Galaxy Note20 series, any stranger could unblock the smartphone, having just scanned the finger.

Producers of gadgets constantly improve protection of the devices, aiming to secure users. Unfortunately, it turns out not always.

Vulnerability became known from the description of January security update from Samsung.

As reported, the correctness of work of a daktiloskop is affected by the protective film pasted on the screen to save the gadget from mechanical damages. As it appeared, care of appearance can become serious security risk of the smartphone and personal data. Because of a protective film there was a frequent false positive operation of the scanner when the device was taken in hand by strangers. In more detail Samsung does not tell about it.

Owners of smartphones of the Galaxy Note20 series are recommended to set whenever possible as soon as possible January security update^[1].

2020: Announcement of Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra

On August 5, 2020 Samsung provided the flagman Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra smartphones. Feature of new products was the improved electronic feather S Pen which, according to developers, work even more precisely, provides more realistic feelings at hand-written text typing (process reminds use of the normal handle even more) and received new gestures.

New products are supplied threefold the 8K-camera with video recording capability at a speed of 24 frames per second. The Pro Video mode allows to shoot with a speed of 120 frames per second, to configure focusing, a sound, exposure and other parameters. Galaxy Note 20 Ultra also has an auto focus with the laser sensor.

Samsung provided the flagman smartphone with the threefold 8K-camera

Galaxy Note 20 received the 64-megapixel camera with a 30-fold zoom, and the Galaxy Note20 Ultra model has it 108-megapixel with a 50-fold zoom. 

In  both versions are set to AMOLED screens, but  with  different parameters: 6.7 inches with   the resolution of 2400 on 1080 pixels in  younger and  6.9  with  the resolution of 3088 on 1440 pixels and  update rate of 120  Hz. In  both screens there is an opening for the 10-megapixel camera on top  and also the fingerprint sensor.

Besides, in new products integration of phones into Windows 10 is improved and the "smart" accumulator capable to be loaded more than for 50% for half an hour appeared. Are provided the ultrasonic sensor of fingerprints with the separate chip of security and an opportunity to connect through USB-C external displays or the TV for start of the desktop interface using DeX technology. Phones work at  Android 10 with  a corporate cover  of One UI 2.0.

Comparison of Samsung Galaxy Note 20 with competitors

By August 6, 2020 the Galaxy Note20 Ultra model is offered at the price of 99,990 rubles for the version from 256 Gbytes of memory and 119,990 rubles for the 512-gigabyte version. The cost of Galaxy Note 20 is 79,990 rubles.^[2]
