2019: Announcement
Samsung Electronics took advantage of the CES 2020 exhibition in early January to introduce the flagship Q950TS television. It is equipped with an 8K display, completely devoid of frames, due to which the output image is similar to a picture from a projector.
It is claimed that the screen accounts for almost 99% of the front surface of the device, while in other "frameless" televisions this figure is 95%.
The resolution of the screen is 7680 × 4320 pixels, the thickness of the device is 15 mm. The TV received a Quantum 8K processor, equipped with artificial intelligence algorithms that improve the original image of lower resolution to 8K format. Samsung AI ScaleNet branded technology allows you to transfer an 8K picture in streaming services that are designed only for 4K resolution. Support for Samsung AI ScaleNet has already been introduced in Amazon Prime.
The manufacturer equipped the novelty with Object Tracking Sound Plus technology that improves sound quality: it creates an audio picture 5.1 to realize the effect of volume sound only due to the speakers of the TV.
The TV can be controlled by voice thanks to the support of Bixby, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. Supported wireless technologies include Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
Samsung did not name either the start of sales or the cost of Q950TS.
At the same CES 2020 exhibition, the South Korean company announced that Samsung 8K TVs on quantum dots will receive support for the ATSC 3.0 standard, which, according to the developers, provides users with higher resolution, realistic sound and expanded interactive capabilities, opening a new era of broadcasting.
Multi-channel object audio and dialogue enhancements increase volume and sound quality, creating an immersive effect. ATSC 3.0 also expands TV capabilities with updated content and added information, according to the press release.[1]
