Geoscan's participation in platform development

The Russian The group of companies Geoscan"" signed Sberbank an agreement on participation in the development of the geoanalytical platform "Geometry." As part of the deal, Geoskan will have to supply geospatial data surfaces: Lands first by filming unmanned aircraft systems, and later by using its own spacecraft. This was Roskosmos announced on October 24, 2023.

The Geometry platform is a neural network that processes images from drones or spacecraft using artificial intelligence. It is able to mark individual objects (for example, a field, forest, building and other) and determine their properties by various parameters. Based on this data, applied AI models are created, and their formation is four times faster than the development of a similar model from scratch.

First Deputy Chairman of the Board of Sberbank Alexander Vedyakhin said that the platform can be used for a variety of tasks - from climate monitoring and crop forecasting to checking free parking spaces and choosing suitable locations for opening new business facilities. The system is already functioning: as of June 2023, 12 types of objects were available on it, and more than 30 were under development.

In the future, on the basis of the platform, commercial and state organizations will be able to develop their own geoanalytic applications, - said Vedyakhin.

Now Sberbank has decided to involve a company in this project that can provide high-quality shooting of the earth's surface. The main direction of further cooperation with Geoxan will be the creation of its own grouping of Earth remote sensing spacecraft. The group of companies recalled that its two cubes, launched into orbit in 2021-2022, continue to successfully function, transmitting telemetric information and images of the earth's surface.

The new goal is to develop a network of about 10 cubsats with improved cameras and communication channels. They are expected to produce much higher resolution images of the Earth's surface. However, Geoksan did not disclose either the possible volume of investments in the project for creating such a grouping, or the timing of the implementation of these plans, noting only that they are "at the very beginning of the journey."

The company added that they are going to provide data for the Geometry platform if there are customers and taking into account the tasks in each case. The agreement assumes that clients can be both those who apply to Sberbank and those who apply to Geoskan[1] will[2].

Geometry Platform View

Sberbank on June 14, 2023 presented the geoanalytical AI platform "Geometry."

The neural network preprocesses satellite images, marks individual objects (for example, a field, forest, building, etc.) and determines their properties according to various parameters. The markup presented on the platform makes it possible to create applied AI models, significantly saving development time. With this approach, the creation of an AI model is four times faster than the development of a similar model from scratch.

The platform can be used to solve a wide range of tasks - from climate monitoring and crop forecasting to monitoring vacant parking spaces, detecting changes in urban development and helping to select locations for the opening of new business facilities.

As of June 2023, 12 types of objects are already available on the platform, more than 30 are in development. A number of successful pilot projects have been implemented.

{{quote 'author = said Alexander Vedyakhin, First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Sberbank. | AI-based geoanalytics helps solve a huge range of applied problems, especially if there is a universal platform. This is the solution developed by the Sber AI team. It is relevant in forestry and urban economy, at construction sites, in agriculture and animal husbandry, climatology and other areas. The Geometry platform is excellent for verifying statistics - for example, the quality of road construction, field yields, the state of the Northern Sea Route, as well as for monitoring the implementation of national projects. In the future, commercial and government organizations will be able to develop their own geoanalytical applications based on the platform,}}
