2021: Development of SiWatch

On June 28, 2021, the Russian division of Siemens announced the development of a SiWatch monitoring system that allows increasing personnel productivity and reducing the likelihood of industrial injuries. The solution was built taking into account Russian realities and tested at the largest oil and gas enterprises in Russia.

The SiWatch system consists of four main components: wearable devices such as a smart watch, a network infrastructure, a cloud platform (or its local analogue based on the Customer's data center) and a web application. This hardware and software suite recognizes the actions of an employee with a precise spatial relationship to the enterprise infrastructure, as well as a subsequent analysis of the production efficiency and safety of personnel. Geo-positioning in the open area is carried out using GPS and GLONASS, in the closed room - using BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) technology.

SiWatch monitors the movement of employees and recognizes which technological operations are performed at one time or another, as well as whether the procedure for performing tasks corresponds to the approved technological regulations of the enterprise. In addition, the system measures the pulse of employees, recognizes traffic patterns and sends alerts at critical values. The system allows you to receive alerts from an employee in the form of voice notes sent directly from the wearable device, as well as SOS alarm button signals. All information about an employee's status, location, task, and audio footage is available online through the web application.

All this makes it possible to achieve transparency in the work of production personnel (individual employees and operational teams) and makes it possible to restore an objective picture in the event of an accident or controversial situations, as well as reduce the level of injuries at work. Employees also receive clues on the smart watch screen, which helps them avoid critical errors and creates more comfortable working conditions.

This tool for monitoring personnel from Siemens is built on the basis of open technologies according to the modular principle. This allows you to easily adapt and unify it for the tasks of a particular enterprise, flexibly scale with an increase in the load and volume of data processed, integrate the solution with other IT systems, including solutions based on WinCC OA.

Production efficiency is inextricably linked to the efficiency of not only equipment, but also personnel, however, if for solving the first task there are many different automated systems, then in the second direction there are practically no means of objective control, which leads to a decrease in personal motivation and overall efficiency of the enterprise, as well as production safety. This decision of Siemens was SiWatch the answer to this current request, "says Zhanna Shalygina, director of the Digital Production Department.
