2024: Platform Closure
Post Bank in mid-June 2024 announced the closure of the online ticketing service SmartBilet in order to reduce operating costs. The platform, launched in 2023 to sell tickets for cultural events, will cease operations in the fall of 2024.
According to Kommersant, the decision to close SmartBilet was made due to the growing integration of market ticket operators into the Pushkin Card program and its popularization. The bank believes that the development of its own ticket business has become inappropriate. It is expected that the operating activities of SmartBilet will be suspended until June 30, 2024, and by the end of 2024 the legal entity SmartTicket LLC will be liquidated.
Post Bank's investments in the SmartBilet project amounted to more than 150 million rubles, and it was originally planned that the platform would enter the top 5 market participants within five years. However, management changes and the bank's strategic priorities led to a review of the plans. In 2023, new managers from VTB took leadership positions in the bank, who critically assessed the benefits of SmartBilet for the bank and decided to close the project to reduce costs.
According to Kommersant, the SmartBilet project was initially supervised by Anastasia Maslennikova, former director of innovation at Post Bank. She promoted the idea of monetizing the platform through participation in the Pushkin Card program, which would provide an influx of new customers to the service. However, after her departure in the summer of 2022, the new leaders revised the strategy and decided to close the project.
Despite negotiations with MTS Entertainment on the possible sale of SmartBilet assets, the management of Post Bank decided not to sell the platform. Interest in the development of specialized business remains, but the decision to close the project was made to optimize costs and concentration in other priority areas.[1]
