Vulnerabilities in the SmartVista platform lead to date leak
Researchers from[1] announced in October two vulnerabilities in a single platform for electronic business and processing of the plastic cards SmartVista which can lead to date leak. It is about two problems allowing to implement the SQL code in the SmartVista Front-End system of version 2.2.10 (assembly 287921). Attacking with access to the SmartVista Front-End interface can exploit vulnerabilities and obtain information which is stored in the database on the server.
Transactions in the section of Customer Service of the SmartVista Front-End interface allows users to browse data on the transactions connected with certain cards or accounts. The problem is that fields where the card number and accounts are specified, do not carry out due cleaning of information entered by the user, experts explained. Thus, the malefactor using specially created requests can force the application to display information from the database of the server, including logins, passwords, numbers of payment cards and other data on transactions.
According to experts, in attempt to enter binary search term, for example, 'or' 1 '= ’1 in the field of Account Number, displays all information on transactions.
Rapid7 informed the developer of the platform BPC Bank Technologies on vulnerabilities in May of this year, however the company still did not release the adjusting patches. All attempts of specialists of the coordination centers CERT/CC and SwissCERT to contact vendor also were unsuccessful. As a method of prevention of operation of vulnerabilities specialists recommend to limit whenever possible access to management of the SmartVista interface, to carry out monitoring of successful and unsuccessful attempts of authorization and also to set WAF (Web Aplication Firewall is the firewall of the application layer).
