2022: First case of psoriasis cure with stem cell therapy
On October 21, 2022, a South Korean stem cell research company, Miracell, announced the creation of a new regenerative skin stem cell therapy using the Smart Emcell2 system.
Clinical trials have been conducted on a patient with psoriasis, a skin disease that is usually treated with steroids but tends to relapse over time. The disease is a chronic skin disease. This is a genetic disease manifested in the form of characteristic formations on the patient's body: papules visible to the eye or plaques of pink-red color, the surface of which flakes and is covered with scales.
Miracell found that the patient fully recovered from intravenous injections of bone marrow stem cells and cells isolated from the blood twice.
The patient suffered from psoriasis for six years, he found it difficult to lead a normal lifestyle due to the severity of the symptoms... But the patient was able to recover after stem cell treatment! Stem cells are capable of becoming any cell in the body. One of their main features is their ability to self-renew or increase the number, said clinical trial leader Professor Park Eun-soo. |
The treatment used a Smart Emcell2 stem cell extraction system developed by Miracell, as well as kits to extract stem cells from bone marrow and blood. Miracell CEO Shin Hyun-sung said the trial results could be successful thanks to the use of fresh cells, which have a survival rate of up to 99%. Sunn added that the company will continue to try to give hope to suffering patients around the world by updating its Smart Emcell2 system.[1]
