Soft Decision Forward Error Correction (SD-FEC)

Soft Decision Forward Error Correction (SD-FEC) is technology of detection and error correction thanks to which transport networks are capable to tell correct digital information at very high data transfer rate to long distances that gives to networks an opportunity to increase the capacity and range without the need for regeneration of a signal throughout a route.

On September 24, 2013 the Infinera company announced doubling of capacity of network on the main trunk of North American land network of TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) operator having applied Soft Decision Forward Error Correction technology (SD-FEC) in superchannels. This functionality is maintained by the Infinera DTN-X platform. Infinera performed thus check of technology on the operating route in North American network TSIC. Now the Soft Decision Forward Error Correction function is available on all deliverable Infinera DTN-X platforms.
