Terracotta Server Array

On June 7, 2012 the Software AG company announced completion of integration of Terracotta technologies into the product line. The project took only five months; the new cluster solution — Terracotta Server Array became its result — which will allow to use all opportunities of the webMethods platform in a cloud environment. Besides, the technology of caching Ehcache of Terracotta company significantly increases efficiency of the CentraSite platform: the performance benefit reaches 50%! It is an important step on the way to creation of the platform optimized for cloud environments.

The new cluster platform provided noticeable performance improvement of the products webMethods; besides, cluster solutions of webMethods can work in a public cloud at Amazon EC2 platform now.

Integration of technology of caching of Terracotta Ehcache into the solution CentraSite allowed to lower load of database resources. Caching — i.e. advance loading of often used data in RAM — plays an important role in performance improvement. The advanced algorithms of caching implemented in CentraSite accelerate data retrieval and access to them — it increases the level of capacity and scalability in environments with a large number of users. The algorithm of caching Terracotta Ehcache is the standard for corporate solutions on the basis of Java; it is used by more than one million developers around the world. Today this technology became available to users of the CentraSite platform.

The in-memory technology from Terracotta company will play a key role in creation of cloud versions of products of Software AG. The data access in RAM takes 1000 times less time, than the addressing the database — it means an opportunity considerably "strengthen" the solutions in an improvement segment business of processes for Software AG.

However plans of Software AG are not limited to it — in future Terracotta will provide control functions with these in-memory which will become a basis of corporate cloud solutions of Software AG. Besides, in plans of Software AG company — replacement of "cluster technologies" in all the products (as expected, it will provide a significant gain in respect of performance) and also development of a single reference platform with the high level of flexibility. These initiatives will allow Software AG to affirm as quality of the leading supplier of services on the PaaS model ("the platform as service").
