On May 22, 2015 the vice president of Depo ComputersVictor Urusov told TAdviser that at the forthcoming conference "IT on Service MIC" in Tatarstan his company is going to show the first product based on the Russian Baikal processor developed by Baikal Electronics company (child structure T-Platforms). According to Urusov, Depo already has prerelease samples of the processor, and the first product, developed on its basis, there was a classical dual-processor server of the average level. The Baikal processor which is used in this server by the opportunities corresponds to Intel processors of the Core i3 and Core i5 series, he added.
According to the vice president of Depo, at the moment the server can work running Microsoft OS and the Russian protected Astra Linux OS. To work on a product capability under other OS the company conducts work. Victor Urusov also noted that Depo is more aimed to use this processor in the server products, in the consumer equipment it is not used yet.
Urusov reported to TAdviser that the first server based on Baikal of Depo expects to prepare for an output to the market by July, 2015. In addition to it, in development the company has some more products on Baikal, he told, having added that it interacts with the developer of these Depo processors practically since the moment of emergence of Baikal Electronics and the announcement of its plans for creation of the Russian processor.
Depo told TAdviser that Baikal processors could be also used further in a new product SKALA-R - the Russian convergent computing platform jointly developed by the companies IBS, Depo Parallels and Naumen. SKALA-R was also provided in May, 2015. The product includes the equipment and the software of management, virtualization and protection and is intended for creation data processing centers of medium-sized and large enterprises.
Speaking about the price of the first server on Baikal, Victor Urusov noted in a conversation with TAdviser that, unfortunately, it was not succeeded to reach yet economic effect that it was cheaper than the Depo servers on Intel: the price of the Russian processor is comparable to the American analogs. However, when production of Baikal processors will become more mass, their cost naturally should fall, he calculates.
With demand for servers on the Russian Depo processor could expand significantly their line if it technologies of Baikal allow. Victor Urusov noted that Depo product line based on Intel processors and AMD contains about 120 models.
Amendments from Depo Computers
On June 8, 2015 representatives of Depo Computers entered several amendments concerning information which was given earlier to TAdviser by the vice president of the company Victor Urusov. Depo said, in particular, that are going to provide to customers the first model of the DEPO Storm server based on the server motherboard developed T-Platforms. This motherboard supports installation of server Intel Xeon processors. The new server can work under Windows OS and Astra Linux OS. Work on an opportunity for work of this server under other OS is conducted, told in the company.
Telling about the price of the new server based on the motherboard T-Platforms, Depo noted that it was not succeeded to reach essential economic effect yet. When production of the Russian motherboards becomes mass, it will be possible to speak about considerable reduction in cost.
Representatives of Depo also specified that "in close interaction work on creation of a line of the PC and servers based on the line of processors developed by the company for the relevant decisions is conducted with Baikal Electronics. It will allow DEPO Computers to provide new PCs and servers right after Baikal processors are put in production". The Baikal-T1 processor provided at the end of May is not intended for servers, declared in Depo with reference to information from Baikal Electronics. First of all, this processor is intended for communication solutions and the built-in systems.
New servers based on the Baikal processor are going to be used also in the SKALA-R platform, but only after production of the new DEPO Storm servers based on the corresponding Baikal processor begins.
