On March 5, 2024, Rostec announced the development and start of deliveries to the Russian army of the Thunderstorm complex, designed to combat drones of the FPV type (First Person View). The system was developed by the Novgorod research and production enterprise Kvant (part of the KRET of the Rostec state corporation).

As told in Rostec, the Groza.04.K system passed all the necessary checks and tests, during which it confirmed its technical characteristics and high efficiency in the fight against FPV drones. The state corporation did not provide the technical characteristics of the product.

At the end of February 2024, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that Russian troops were using the Thunderstorm complex in the Avdeev direction of a military special operation in Ukraine. Then the ministry said that the system "suppresses quadcopters, does not allow them to fly."

It emits waves and prevents the quadcopter from reacting, it is lost in space. Then we knock him down, or he sits down himself. More than 10 pieces were shot down over the past month, - said the operator of the electronic warfare station with the call sign Prapor.

According to him, the radius of interference created by the Thunderstorm is 500 meters, which allows you to protect artillery and other troops from kamikaze drones.

As the general director of the NGO "Quantum" Andrei Kondrashov noted, in August 2023 the enterprise was tasked with developing a means of countering drones, and in the fall of the same year the first batch of devices was transferred to the Ministry of Defense.
