2025:1913 defective Toyota cars detected in Russia, whose engines fail

On April 2, 2025, Rosstandart announced the recall of Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus LX 600 SUVs on the Russian market. These cars have a production defect that can lead to engine failure.

The regulator's notice says that during the production of power units, the remaining machining could remain inside the engine. These particles adhere to the bearings, which eventually leads to their failure. At the same time, knocks in the motor or its uneven operation can be observed. In addition, there is a possibility of stopping the power unit and the impossibility of starting.

The defect affects a total of 1913 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus LX 600 SUVs that rolled off the assembly line between April 26, 2021 and February 8, 2022. The problem is observed only in cars equipped with a V35A engine. In these machines, stopping the engine while driving results in a loss of power. In the event of such a situation, the risk of a traffic accident increases. There is no information on incidents related to the defect at the beginning of April 2025.

Authorized representatives of Toyota Motor LLC will inform owners of cars subject to recall by sending letters and/or by phone about the need to provide a vehicle to the nearest dealership for repair work. Defective SUVs will be replaced by a power unit.

You can find out about the presence of a car in the recall program using a special service on the Auto.ru website (project of the company Yandex""). If the car falls under the recall, the owner needs to contact the nearest dealership and coordinate the time of the visit. All works will be carried out free of charge for motorists. ^[1]

2022: Recall of thousands of defective cars in Russia due to faulty course stability system

Toyota is recalling thousands of defective cars in Russia due to a faulty course stability system (VSC). This was reported on July 8, 2022 by the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart).

The service campaign affected the Toyota Land Cruiser 300, Lexus LX 500d and Lexus LX 600 SUVs, which were sold in Russia from July 1, 2021 to July 2022.

According to the press service of Rosstandart, there is a possibility that due to the peculiarities of the software of the electronic control unit (ECU) of the anti-skid system, with certain actions, when the driver manually turns off the VSC using on-board control of this system, and turns off the ignition in this state, and then turns it on again when the brake pedal is pressed, the VSC system will not turn on by default at the next ignition cycle. If you do not exactly perform the specified actions, the VSC operation will automatically return to the default setting of the VSC "ON" in any subsequent ignition cycle. If the VSC system is not activated by default, a warning lamp will turn on on the dashboard indicating to the driver that the VSC system is not activated.

To eliminate the problem, official dealers Toyota Lexus will reprogram the brake control units. All work will be free for car owners.

At the end of September 2019, sales of the updated Toyota Land Cruiser SUV, equipped with new technologies that are designed to complicate car theft, began in Russia.

The possibilities of additional verification of the VIN number complicate the process of selling a stolen vehicle in the secondary market and, as a result, are designed to reduce the interest of attackers in the brand's products.

The updated Land Cruiser 200 in Russia is available with a 4.6-liter V8 gasoline engine for 309 liters. from. and 439 torque N·m, as well as with an eight-cylinder diesel engine with a volume of 4.5 liters, developing 249 liters. from. and 650 N·m. Both versions are equipped with a six-speed gearbox.

It is noted that the car received wheels of a new design. In addition, the car can be ordered in the new color "black mother of pearl."

The cost of the SUV remained at the level of its predecessor and begins at 4,875,000 rubles (with a gasoline engine). For the top-end diesel version of the Executive Lounge, dealers ask for 5,894,000 (prices are relevant as of September 25, 2019).^[3]
