Toyota buys defective electric cars from owners.

In August 2022, Toyota announced its readiness to buy the recalled electric vehicles bZ4X from motorists after it became known that the hub bolts used on the wheels could weaken "to the point that the wheel can disconnect from the car."

The cause of the problem and the driving patterns under which it may occur are still under investigation, Toyota said in June 2022.

Toyota announced its readiness to buy defective cars from owners

After months of investigation, Toyota sent a letter to bZ4X owners (and then posted it on reddit) detailing possible compensation, including a full buyout. For example, bZ4X owners can continue to drive their car on loan while the dealer maintains the customer's electric car for free. Toyota will pay for the fuel used in these rental cars, and will also offer buyers $5,000 in lease payments or a check if the electric car was purchased immediately. Toyota also extends the bZ4X period of free charging for drivers at EVgo stations and increases the warranty period.

In addition, Toyota offers to buy out the bZ4X, although conditions may vary depending on the situation. Toyota did not say how it would handle the dealer markups that were originally applied to the purchase price. Toyota is also recalling 2022 tundra cars due to a problem with rear axle bolts that could weaken over time.

The bZ4X recall also includes 403 units of the 2023 Subaru Solterrawhich, which shares Toyota's platform, though documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) say none have yet been sent to dealers or customers.[1]

Recall of defective electric vehicles that have wheels falling off

On June 23, 2022, Toyota released a global recall of its electric crossovers bZ4X less than two months after they entered the market.

According to a statement from the Japanese automaker, the wheel hub bolts can become loose while driving, which can later lead to the disconnection of the entire wheel. Toyota strongly advises owners not to use their electric vehicles until the problem is fixed.

The recall of electric vehicles represents a significant setback for one of the world's largest automakers, which has pledged to allocate $17.6 billion for the production of 30 models of electric vehicles by 2030. The bZ4X model, which went on sale on April 12, 2022, is seen as a key step in Toyota's attempt to move toward electric vehicles.

Toyota says the reason why the hub bolts are loosening is still being studied. Buyers are advised to notify their local official Toyota dealer to send the car bZ4X for diagnostics. The company will also provide another vehicle on loan for free.

Of the 2,700 vehicles to be recalled, 2,200 of them were for, Europe 280 for, North America 110 for Japan and 60 for other countries. Asia Most of the vehicles were not delivered to consumers.

The reason for the recall of the bZ4X is one of the most serious, starting in April 2022. In mid-June 2022, Ford recalled 49,000 Mustang Mach-E SUVs, but insisted the problem could be fixed by upgrading the software over the internet. Electric cars of other brands were also recalled due to various software errors and other minor problems.[2]
