2023: First use of the product
On February 22, 2023, Acclarent, part of the Johnson & Johnson group, announced the start of surgical ENT operations using a specialized blade with electromagnetic navigation TruDi Shaver Blade.
The first procedures were performed at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. The disposable blade allows doctors to perform more accurate operations on the nasal axils (air-bearing cavities in the bones of the skull communicating with the nasal cavity). The product is designed to remove soft and hard tissues or bones. The blade can be used in ENT surgery, maxillofacial surgery, head and neck surgery, and the base of the skull. Different sizes are available to doctors to work with different anatomical structures.
The TruDi Shaver Blade uses TruDi's advanced navigation features, including artificial intelligence-based TruSeg, to segment key anatomical structures such as the eyes and brain, which can then serve as beacons. Thus, surgeons receive warnings when the blade approaches certain tissues during ENT procedures. Doctors can also monitor the movements of the instrument in real time using rapid anatomical mapping (FAM), which allows you to monitor the completion of the procedure. The distal tip sensor allows visualization of the blade position.
Two weeks ago, we treated a young patient with extensive nasal polyps and several past paranasal sinus surgeries. Its anatomy was greatly distorted, and the TruDi Shaver Blade with a complex navigation system turned out to be very useful. The procedure was successful: we were able to remove nasal polyps and effectively treat the changed anatomy without harm to the patient, "said Anthony DelSignore, MD, at Mount Sinai Hospital.[1] |
