2020: The announcement of the robot who is independently reeling up optical fiber on the power transmission line
On July 16, 2020 it became known of release robot, created by the company Facebook and ULC Robotics. Development can independently climb up support of the power transmission line and, overcoming different obstacles, to reel up optical fiber on transmission lines. It is supposed that the robot will allow to reduce the cost of connection to the Internet by 5 times.

Construction of development includes the main rotating part with optical fiber and a coiling bar, and side elements of the robot allow it to move. The horseshoe compartment for optical fiber at rotation practically does not displace the center of gravity of the robot, it can contain over one kilometer of a cable. For the innovation robot the heavy-duty cable which a little easier traditional is also provided.
It is expected that the robot will be used in the different countries of the world. The cost of laying of fiber optic lines using innovation and taking into account all expenses will be about $2 - $3 for 1 kilometer. Considering setup, loading and unloading of the device, the speed of laying of networks can average from 1.5 to 2 km of a cable a day. NetEquity Networks will become the first company which will use the robot.[1]
