2019: Beginning of sales

In the middle of February, 2019 the Finnish startup of Varjo Technologies released the first VR headset. The device under the name Varjo VR-1, according to developers, has resolution capability as at a human eye.

The headset worth $5995 will be on sale directly to the enterprises which work in such areas as architecture, design and construction. Varjo already has experience of cooperation with such large companies as Airbus, Audi and Volkswagen.

Varjo VR-1 is the VR headset with the permission as at a human eye for builders and engineers

Varjo VR-1 has resolution more than 60 pixels to degree that, according to Varjo, is 20 times higher, than at other devices in the market, and is equivalent to permission of a human eye. In the headset the new display with the fixed focus which actually uses two different displays for each eye is used: the display with a very high density of pixels covering the central 20 degrees of a viewing field (which an eye will recognize best of all), and the display with a smaller density of pixels which fills the periphery of a viewing field of the headset. The device also received technology of tracking of a look which can be used in the different industries — for example, it will allow pilots to fulfill actions in emergency situation.

The release of the headset took place against the background of weaker, than it was expected, growth of consumer market of the equipment of virtual reality. However the cofounder and the CEO of Varjo Niko Eiden considers that the high price of Varjo VR-1 is not a restraining factor for the companies which want to use VR as the educational and professional tool.

For production VR-1 Varjo attracted $46 million investments, including the London venture capital company Atomico and the German producer of the electronic equipment Siemens. Representatives of Varjo reported that at the end of 2019 they will provide a component of augmented reality for the VR-1 headset.[1]
