2020: Start of a marketplace for industrial applications
On July 23, 2020 announced Volkswagen expansion of the cloud service Industrial Cloud therefore it will become a marketplace where business clients will be able to buy and sell industrial applications.
The Volkswagen Industrial Cloud platform is based on cloud infrastructure of Amazon Web Services (AWS). It was initially created for data collection in real time from all 122 global factories of the German car maker, from 1.5 thousand his partners and 30 thousand their plants. Project participants aim to optimize efficiency, speed and flexibility of production, to improve quality of the made vehicles. Eventually the companies want to achieve complete automation of all production processes and logistics of cars.
For data analysis from the Volkswagen Industrial Cloud enterprises uses tools of AWS IoT, including AWS IoT Greengrass, AWS IoT Core, AWS IoT Analytics and AWS IoT SiteWise.
According to the executive vice president of Volkswagen for strategic projects Nikhar Patel, the Industrial Cloud service is intended for data exchange and the software to accelerate digitalization of production processes from stamping before painting and maintenance of the equipment.
The list of the first partner software suppliers to the Industrial Cloud project included the Swiss company ABB and the German supplier of automated systems of coloring and engineering services for the Dürr enterprises. Participants will exchange industrial applications with each other.
The vice president of AWS for IoT Dirk Didaskalo noted that their platform will assist project participants in management of Industrial Cloud and will provide a number of cloud services which will be necessary for the enterprises for analytics of data.[1]
