2020: Announcement of the ArmorLock platform

On September 4, 2020 the Western Digital company submitted the platform of security ArmorLock. The platform of enciphering and data security of ArmorLock changing approach to data protection. This platform is designed to solve the different problems with security arising at deployment of storages in which attention to processing of large volumes of data and safety of especially valuable information in such industries of our life as is paid: finance, state administration, health care, corporate information technologies, law, media and entertainments. Western Digital is going to implement the platform and in other own solutions for information storage.

Western Digital issued the platform of security ArmorLock

According to the company, the SSD drive G-Technology with support of NVMe and enciphering of ArmorLock developed as simple in use and the productive solution for the data storage providing the necessary security level and intended for users of the industry media and entertainments became the first product equipped with this technology. Being afraid that their intellectual property can snare unduly studios, the agencies and of course investors look for more reliable methods of protection of crucial content. At the same time until recently main attention in the industry was given to security of cloud servers because of what the commercial data which are stored on portable devices still remained vulnerable.

Unlike encryption systems on the basis of the password whose intervention slows down workflow and prevents maintenance of uninterrupted access to digital assets, the platform of security ArmorLock provides the sufficient level of protection of data allowing the owner of content to control who and as gets access to it. In NVMe SSD drives this technology works with ArmorLock enciphering simply and quickly.

We always preferred disks with G-Technology technology because in them the sound components providing the increased reliability and performance are used. As large studios and strimingovy services show consideration for protection of the content, we observe serious shift towards enciphering of a multimedia content which is in certain cases integrated to decline in production because of program enciphering.

The platform of security ArmorLock shows commitment of Western Digital to release of the solutions for data storage compatible to the products providing necessary degree of security and available for a wide range of users. All concept of ArmorLock is built from own production before installation on site of operation without additional settings and updates of a configuration. And the main thing - key management which is started directly on hardware securities, same, as in some smartphones and notebooks with their biometric solutions for access control. Being specially developed as the tool facilitating management of critical data.

Western Digital announced transfer to open source Sweet B recently - the productive root cryptographic library which is the cornerstone of the platform of security ArmorLock. Sweet B is developed for providing the following security level, using cryptography on elliptic curves. On GitHub it is possible to find documentation, a complete test set and results of the substantive audit booked by research firm in the field of security of Trail of Bits in a repository.

Key characteristics of the platform of security of ArmorLock:

  • production technologies, the entrusted basis and the digital certificate of authenticity creating in each device;
  • simple updating of a firmware, directly through the ArmorLock application;
  • the main module of cryptography checked by security researchers open source;
  • possibility of installation of management programs in own "sandbox" for computers and smartphones – through own app stores;
  • use of wireless and hardwired connections with automatic adjustment of parameters of the safety certificate;
  • besparolny the authentication, technology of key exchange of security providing enciphering of storage with biometric authentication through hardware securities;
  • management of not disclosed encryption keys which protects confidentiality even in case of loss or theft of the ArmorLock device.
