SU7 stands for Speed Ultra.
2024: Launch Announcement
On March 12, 2024, Xiaomi announced the start of sales of its first electric car. Its price has not been named. At the same time, earlier Xiaomi director Lei Jun mentioned in various interviews that the car will cost about 500 thousand yuan (approximately $70 thousand).
The car can be ordered from 59 stores in 29 cities across China, the company said.
The BBC notes that the release of the car from Xiaomi could make an adjustment to the "price war" between BYD and Tesla for the Chinese market, the largest electric vehicle market in the world. Over the past year, Tesla has cut prices for its electric vehicles in China by thousands of dollars, and local manufacturers, such as BYD, are responsible for the same.
Lei Jun, director of the company, noted on the Weibo social network that the company hopes that the new Speed Ultra 7 (SU7) will become one of the five most popular electric vehicles in the world. According to the director, the SU7 accelerates faster than Tesla and electric Porshe.
Xiaomi plans to invest $10 billion in its automotive business in the next 10 years.
Among the advantages of SU7, the synchronization of car systems with Xiaomi smartphones stands out thanks to the Xiaomi HyperOS operating system. The car will be produced at the factory of the state-owned manufacturer BAIC Group in Beijing. The production capacity of the plant is 200 thousand cars per year.
Xiaomi shares on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX) rose 11.34% after the announcement of the electric car[1]
