Use of AI for early detection of cancer

On May 8, 2022, SberMedAI (SberMedAI) spoke about the experience of using artificial intelligence for early detection of signs of cancer. An example was the experience of using technology in the Karachay-Cherkess Oncological Dispensary named after S.P. Butov.

In 2021, a retrospective screening of one and a half thousand CT lung studies collected during the COVID-19 pandemic was carried out on the territory of the S.P. Butov Oncologic Dispensary. The neural network found nodular formations in 15 patients. The studies were submitted for verification to oncologists. In 8 cases, cancer was confirmed, thanks to which it was possible to start treatment much earlier.

Connecting MDDC to the Information System

On September 21, 2021, SberMedAI announced the connection of the Medical Digital Diagnostic Center (MDDC) to the information system of the S.P. Butov Karachay-Cherkess Oncological Dispensary. In accordance with the signed agreement, MDDC will be built into the medical information system and workstations of oncologic dispensary doctors. The development will help doctors in daily work, will reduce the load, as well as increase the effectiveness and speed of diagnoses.

Medical specialists of the oncological dispensary will be able to use all the products and solutions presented on the MDDC platform in their workplaces through the usual interface, and there are more than 50 of them, including: CT Lungs, smart assistant physician "TOP-3," "CT Stroke" and many others.

When using the development of "CT Lungs," the doctor radiologist will be able to upload the results of patient research into KT the system and the images will be immediately processed. The algorithms AI system will online determine the area of ​ ​ lung damage, indicate the volume of tissue damage, measure the degree of severity on the CT scale, and also highlight the detected pathologies. At the same time medical data , the patient can be sent to verify and form an opinion to the appropriate MDDC consultant physician. It will take no more than 3 minutes to process AI algorithms. The time of verification by the MDDC consultant physician depends on the complexity of the case and can range from 15 minutes or more.
