2021: Automation of warehouse processes

Biocad, an international biotechnology company, automated warehouse process management based on SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM). As part of the project, inbound, outbound and internal warehouse management processes were automated, integration with robotic storage system (MFS), management of labeled and serialized products, sampling for quality control was implemented. The project was implemented in 7 months and launched simultaneously at two warehouses of the company - in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The implementation partner was NOVARDIS, which announced this on May 11, 2021.

As a result of the implementation of SAP EWM, the entire set of warehouse processes was implemented in one system, became transparent, and now information on product movements and balances in the warehouse is available for real-time operational decisions. The system allows you to process more than 10,000 items per month, ensure transparency and speed when accepting more than 1,000 deliveries and shipping more than 3,000 deliveries per month, and can perform more than 1,500 sampling operations for quality control. A high level of implemented automation also helps to reduce the number of errors of ordinary warehouse workers.

In the future, BIOCAD plans to replicate SAP EWM to all its warehouses.

The implementation of SAP EWM has become one of the major projects of the program for the development of the functional volume of the second wave solution, implemented during 2020. The project became an organic and planned continuation of the growth of automation and development of processes in the field of supply chain management, closing the technological circuit of the field of materials management processes: MM-EWM-PP-ATTP-SD. This provides the necessary level of traceability of the quality of the flow of through processes and opens up opportunities for their regular monitoring and evaluation, as well as for their subsequent effective transformation and reengineering. Despite the pandemic, the company was able to maintain both the pace of development of its solution and the quality of project management and continues to work on increasing process efficiency, initiating development projects in 2021 - all this is an undeniable merit of the professional team, "said Dmitry Gordeev, Vice President of Finance and Supply Chain Management and Operational Efficiency BIOCAD.

BIOCAD follows the path of digitalization, using global practices and adapting them to the specifics of the business. The pharmaceutical business is deeply regulated by the state, so any inaccuracy or delay in deliveries can lead to serious consequences. SAP EWM is BIOCAD's next step towards building end-to-end business processes after implementing a single digital enterprise management platform, a solution for tracking labeled products, and optimizing logistics processes. All of them are integrated among themselves and help the company develop and scale the business, "said Alexander Metechko, SAP Managing Director for Working with Partners and Fast-Growing Companies in Russia and the CIS.

The benefits of digitalization in pharmaceuticals cannot be overestimated. The transition to smart production is a global trend that ensures real growth in production and financial indicators. Given the critical importance of the project associated with the release of the vaccine against COVID-19 -, the joint Satellite V efforts of the BIOCAD and NOVARDIS teams managed to deploy a solution for automation of warehouse processes based on SAP EWM in a short time. After all, the ultimate goal of the project is to ensure the safety of patients and the quality of the drug throughout the product life cycle: from production to sales, "said Alexander Niznik NOVARDIS CEO.
