2022: Plan to launch agrochemicals tracking system in Brazil market

The Israeli company Adama will launch a system for tracking agrochemicals in the Brazilian market, based on blockchain technology, in order to combat counterfeit products. This became known on September 19, 2022.

Now the packages with plant protection products produced by Adama will have a unique QR code recorded in the blockchain. It can be read using a special application that allows you to verify the authenticity of the origin of the product.

For September 2022, Adama is in the development phase of the application and web interface, which will be completed and ready for implementation in the 1st quarter of 2023 on two to three key products. Adama plans to include the entire product line in the system by 2025.

Trade in adulterated agrochemicals is a threat to agriculture and a risk to human health and the environment. According to Brazil's National Union of Plant Protection Manufacturers, the use of illegal or counterfeit pesticides accounts for 20% of their total use in the country[1].
