In the middle of November, 2019 Hahn Air became the first-ever airline which issues tickets in a blockchain system. For this purpose the German company signed the partnership agreement with the Winding Tree blockchain platform. The first passenger who used this service already made flight from Düsseldorf to Luxembourg.
Winding Tree provides the information systems working in real time for a number of hotels and travel companies worldwide. The Winding Tree system allows airline to register and process requests for armoring and to receive payments of passengers. It is possible to pay the ticket using the credit card or cryptocurrency.
The head of department of strategic planning and management of Hahn Air Jörg Troester noted that that the purpose of the company - "investigate and trace opportunities which the technology of a blockchain gives for the industry of travel even if its wide circulation still remains only in plans for the future".
The airline believes that the blockchain has a set of advantages, and one of them is that all members of this industry, including airlines, tourist corporations and hotels, can make trade operations with the clients without intermediaries. Hahn Air reported that thanks to reduction of prices passengers will only benefit from attraction of blockchain platforms. Besides, all necessary data of passengers remain in hostless system which is constantly checked and, therefore, cannot be forged.
Winding Tree blockchain startup also signed agreements with numerous known airlines, including Air Canada, Air France-KLM, Lufthansa and Eurowings, Swiss Air, Swissport, Brussels Airlines, Austrian Airlines and Air New Zealand subsidiary companies.[1]
