Airbus implements AR headsets of Microsoft for production of airplanes

In June, 2019 the aircraft-building company Airbus announced implementation of devices the mixed reality Microsoft for production of airplanes.

The executive vice president for developments of Airbus Jean-Brice Dumont notes that use of the HoloLens 2 headset and the systems of the mixed reality – key components of digital strategy of the company. Technologies of the mixed reality should help Airbus to increase quality, security and reliability of work.

Airbus implements AR headsets of Microsoft for production of airplanes

In cooperation of Airbus and Microsoft check how the HoloLens 2 AR headset can be used during the training, design and production of aircraft. According to the aircraft-building company, the technology of the mixed reality can be used for providing important information to employees during operation. Digital data in the form of instructions or schemes can be imposed on the real mechanism, helping at the solution of difficult tasks.

The HoloLens 2 headset is used in Airbus within wider system of the mixed reality. The aviaproducer considers that new technologies can be used also for training of trainees in virtual environment. The system of the mixed reality is capable to recreate the three-dimensional image of a cabin of the airplane which will allow users to consider its elements at any angle.

The mixed reality allows employees to perform the work as the most effective and ergonomic method that directly promotes performance improvement. On predesigns, use of such systems is capable to reduce time of production of separate parts for 30%. At the same time providing important information in due time increases not only quality, but also safety of work that is also the priority direction on any production.^[1]
