In September 2024, an agreement was announced between the Russian aircraft manufacturer Yakovlev and Smartavia for the supply of 45 MS-21 aircraft. The agreement is aimed at supporting the renewal of the Smartavia fleet and the development of domestic civil aviation. This agreement strengthens the position of the Russian aircraft manufacturer in the domestic market and contributes to the achievement of import substitution goals in the aviation industry.

According to the press service of the state corporation "Rostec," the signed contract involves the supply of airliners in the period from 2025 to 2030. The MS-21 model is being developed in Russia as a promising aircraft for medium-haul flights, which should replace foreign counterparts in the market and reduce dependence on foreign technologies. The delivery of 45 aircraft will allow Smartavia to significantly increase its capacity and offer more competitive conditions for passengers in domestic and international destinations.

MS-21 is one of the key projects within the framework of the strategy for the development of civil aircraft industry in Russia. These aircraft are characterized by high efficiency indicators, as well as the use of modern composite materials, which increases their fuel efficiency and reduces operating costs. Smartavia expects to use these machines to expand its route network and improve the quality of passenger service. Yakovlev, in turn, plans to continue increasing production, which will help accelerate the import substitution program in the aviation industry.

Andrey Boginsky, General Director of PJSC Yakovlev, noted that the signing of this agreement with one of the key players in the Russian aviation market is an important step in the development of the country's civilian aircraft industry.

Smartavia CEO Vladimir Lavrov stressed that expanding the fleet with MS-21 will allow the company to significantly improve its market position and offer passengers more comfortable and economical flights.[1]
