"AXON" upgraded IT infrastructure using the systems of Fujitsu

Problem and premises of the project

In IT infrastructure of retail chain stores of AKSON holding before implementation of the project the solution of the main objectives meant the concept "1 task – 1 server". As in this case the customer company had large number of unused computing resources, the management made the decision to replace the concept and to implement virtualization of the server hardware in IT infrastructure. It would allow not only to reduce costs for IT and to increase reliability of an IT complex in general, but also to reduce a downtime in case of failures of the equipment and also to liquidate a problem of shortage of the place for new servers in racks of the server room.

For upgrade of IT infrastructure of retail chain stores "AXON" the decision on purchase and installation of the systems of Fujitsu was made: rack PRIMERGY RX4770 M1 and RX1330 M1 servers and storage system of Fujitsu ETERNUS DX60.

The used equipment

The Fujitsu PRIMERGY RX4770 M1 server sets standards of technology of four-processor rack servers, without sacrificing performance, scalability and expansibility.

Equipped with processors of the Intel Xeon E7-4800/8800 v2 family which can have up to 60 cores and also up to 6 TB base memories, this server is suitable for problems of virtualization, consolidation of servers, management of databases, a business intelligence and also for ensuring work of normal applications for four-processor servers. Fujitsu PRIMERGY RX1330 M1 is the single-processor rack server developed for the companies of small business, providing high energy efficiency and a wide choice of additional components, allowing to meet individual requirements of customers. This server optimized for support of infrastructure and messaging applications provides up to 32 GB of RAM, up to 3 PCIe connectors and up to 10 hard drives.

The disk storage system of data of ETERNUS DX60 ensuring stable functioning on the affordable price will be suitable for IT infrastructures of the enterprises of small and medium business (SMB). The solution is intended for the small companies, providing a reserve for future development thanks to scalability of capacity of storage.

Solution

Servers of support, DBMS, service Exchange and CRM system of holding were deployed in the virtual environment of VMware vSphere 5 launched on the PRIMERGY RX4770 M1 and RX1330 M1 servers. On virtual machines of a cluster work of a SQL database, a mail and file server, online store (akson-quick.ru), service Active Directory and also a terminal server and the application server is performed.

Images of virtual machines are stored on DWH of Fujitsu ETERNUS DX60. The storage system is completed with 12 hard drives of SAS of 600 GB. All connections of a disk system and servers are performed under the iSCSI protocol, the speed of connection reaches 1 Gbps.

Main advantages of Fujitsu used in the draft decision:

• Emergence of fault tolerance of services, implementation of functions of reservation of components of a system.
• Reduction of quantity of the electric power consumed by the server room due to reduction of number of servers.
• Improvement of management of IT services and infrastructure maintenance for the realization account of the project in a single system of Fujitsu.
• Optimization of computing resources.

Staff of Sinto company performed works on design, supply of equipment and setup of virtual environment for business applications of the customer, scenarios of a hardware failure are fulfilled and an inspection of operability of services is carried out, the management system for virtual machines is customized. It was succeeded to raise considerably indicators of continuity of work of infrastructure IT services.

Project Results

Before implementation of the project at retail chain stores of AKSON holding each service worked on the separate physical server. After virtualization implementation services of the company were placed in virtual machines of a server cluster. Installation and setup of the new equipment happened within two months, the project was started in June, 2015. During upgrade of IT infrastructure of AKSON holding using the server systems of Fujitsu the management of customer company remained completely enough project.
