The Dassault Systèmes (DS) company reports, the BMW company selected V6 platform for development of electrical equipment, electronics and the firm ware of the cars.
Background
The flexible PLM basis and a large number of the special integrated functions for system developments became the key factors which influenced the choice of BMW for benefit of V6.
Plans and expectations
As expected, the project for development of architecture, integration and design of cars will allow BMW to adjust joint work of employees and to integrate different components and participants of development process of electrical equipment and electronics of cars of the company. BMW will use V6 platform for creation of the uniform IP link that will allow to connect needs of consumers with implementable functions of the car at determination of a logical architecture of systems and equipment manufacturing and the software.
At the same time, BMW will use V6 platform when planning the built-in systems using reference architecture for all derivatives of the car and ensuring permanent upgrade of its functions. Reuse of functions and separation of the equipment and program components in development process will allow BMW to achieve, as expected, significant savings of means in the field of electrical equipment and electronics.
Opinion
"The machine of the future cannot be constructed using technologies and tools of the past, – Dominique Florack, the senior executive vice president for Research and Development of Dassault Systèmes company said. – V6 platform is strategic decision for creation and digital modeling of the most difficult built-in systems. And I am very glad that the BMW company could show these opportunities of the solution, having implemented it in the production in very short terms (less than in 8 months)".
