On July 2, 2015 it became known of the project of virtualization of jobs in structure of the airports of the cities of Krasnodar and Sochi entering into Basel Aero holding[1].

Project Tasks

Before company management there was a task - to create the powerful, scalable IT infrastructure providing functioning of several hundred virtual desktops for the staff of numerous non-productive services of the airports. During the project it was supposed to resolve issues of increase in efficiency of the IT infrastructure operating by then, to lower costs for its contents.

Basel Aero, 2014

At equipment selection for creation of infrastructure of virtual work places preliminary testing of the server of Fujitsu was held: within one and a half months virtualization of desktops on the platform one blade server together with the workstation was imitated. Results of testing satisfied customer representatives. Presence at Fujitsu of necessary components for VDI – from the zero client to servers and a storage system became a decisive factor of influence when choosing vendor.

Project Progress

For the organization of a server cluster Basel Aero selected a blade chassis of Fujitsu PRIMERGY BX900, a blade server of Fujitsu PRIMERGY BX924 and a storage system of Fujitsu ETERNUS DX200. Work of virtual desktops is organized using zero clients of Fujitsu FUTRO L420. Zero clients of FUTRO L420 provide the high level of security, simplicity of management, without making noise, and at the same time is easily integrated into the existing infrastructure.

The server cluster is connected with a storage system of Fujitsu ETERNUS DX200 which is broken into two parts – "fast" and "slow". "Fast" serves for storage of images of virtual machines and their fast deployment, and "slow" – for data storage of users.

During the first stage of implementation 300 jobs at the airports Krasnodar and Sochi are created.

The next stage in development of IT infrastructure of Basel Aero - expansion of opportunities of use of virtual desktops, increase in efficiency of their use, planned replacement of the PC and notebooks on thin or zero clients. It is going to develop a program and product part, giving to company management an opportunity of remote work with the working applications.

Alexander Kolesnikov, the CIO of Basel Aero, told: "We considered solutions of different leading vendors, compared technological capabilities, total cost of ownership and the general computing opportunities per unit of the spent means. After the detailed analysis of the competing solutions it became clear to us that the equipment of Fujitsu company conforms to all our requirements, at the same time it is quite acceptable on the level of cost and is capable to provide accomplishment of those tasks which before us arise".
Ekaterina Zolotaryova, the Head of Department on work with partners in Russia and the CIS of Fujitsu company, emphasized: "The Fujitsu company pays much attention to implementation at the enterprises of infrastructure of virtual desktops which allows clients to reduce costs for support of IT infrastructure considerably. Being the leader of the ICT industry, Fujitsu provides a full range of solutions for creation and support of VDI: from servers of a different form factor to client devices. In the project with Basel Aero company with the help the blade chassis of PRIMERGY BX900 and storage system of ETERNUS was succeeded to construct virtual infrastructure for three hundred jobs with a backlog on increase in their number twice due to ease of scaling of solutions of Fujitsu".
