Content

On March 31, 2014 Opening became known of the project of upgrade of IT infrastructure of the company the Broker house. The partner in the project - Hitachi Data Systems.

Project Tasks

Business development imposed increased requirements to IT infrastructure of the company the Broker house Opening - there was a need of transfer of storage systems to new technology level - disaster-proof and easy to control.

For ensuring continuity of work of IT services, critical for business, "OTKRYTIYE-Broker" started additional DPC. After its start before IT management of the company there was a problem of updating of the existing storage system taking into account new approach to creation of failsafe IT infrastructure. Main requirements to it:

  • fault tolerance,
  • maximum ease of management,
  • maximum automation.

Considering nuances, management "OTKRYTIYE-Broker" made the decision on creation of the new cloud platform integrating two territorially remote DPCs and guaranteeing continuous work of business and critical services.

The solution of Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) attracted heads "OTKRYTIYE-Broker" with technology advantages, rather low cost and existence of additional opportunities.

Maxim Efreev, the head of department of infrastructure and technical development of JSC OTKRYTIYE-Broker, noted: "We came to a conclusion that we need one good storage system which would meet all our requirements and would allow to take all other systems out of service. The long-term project with the guaranteed support of the producer was necessary. The product of Hitachi not only solved all tasks set for the project of upgrade of a storage system at the moment but also offered to us big prospects".

Project Progress

Set the tasks for IT service "OTKRYTIYE-Broker":

  • transfer of all business and critical services on a disaster-proof system with the minimum changes in applications of the top level;
  • optimization of a hardware platform of IT infrastructure, in particular, storage systems.

Applied VMware of vMSC (vSphere Metro Storage Cluster) to creation of the distributed cloud. It allows a possibility of use of both DPCs in the Active-Active mode, i.e. most effectively to use the available server capacities and resources of storage systems.

For the organization of SAN network the equipment Fibre Channel of Brocade company supplied through HDS within the OEM agreement is selected.

For communication of two DPCs the channel-forming equipment of DWDM using which unrolled two geographically distributed SAN factories on the basis of the Fibre Channel switches of Brocade company is installed. Using reliably working SAN factories between two arrays of HUS130 the remote synchronous replication of TrueCopy providing disaster tolerance of the solution at the level of data storage is configured.

Hitachi Data Systems organized multi-layer system of data storage for the customer:

  • direct data storage of a file cluster is provided by two highly reliable disk arrays of the average level – HUS130 (Hitachi Unified Storage 130). For increase in disaster tolerance the hardware platform of arrays is located specularly on different platforms (in two DPCs), and in case of failure of one of arrays all functionality is transferred to another.

  • over the level of data storage will unroll the distributed file cluster (Synchronous Disaster Recovery) on the basis of two file modules Hitachi HNAS 3080 carried on two platforms. For exchange of service data in a file cluster two Ethernet-channels 10 Gbps created between two DPC means of channel equipment of DWDM are used. For interaction with the level of data storage two distributed SAN factories are used, and modules of a file cluster have an opportunity to work with both storage systems of HUS130. The cluster of VMware of vMSC interacts with the geographically distributed data warehouse by means of file protocols. The main protocol for data access of VMware – NFS v3, but in "OTKRYTIYE-Broker" is used as well CIFS Windows (protocol). Using this protocol domain users Microsoft Active Directory use a file cluster for storage of the data also easily as though it was the normal domain file server.

In addition to arrays and file modules of a cluster on both platforms the office equipment controlling logic of switching – two servers with the software, for increase in fault tolerance located everyone on one of platforms (DPC) and, in case of failure, selecting the necessary algorithm for its correction is connected.


Deployment

Involved highly qualified specialists from the Global Solution Services (GSS) command of the Moscow representative office of HDS in process of deployment of a hardware platform.

The first stage of implementation is implemented in January, 2013, the second – in April. In January basic installation and preliminary testing is complete, in April, 2013 a system is integrated into the customer's infrastructure – a system fully functions.

The software platform of VMware was unrolled by employees of IT department "OTKRYTIYE-Broker". Integration of hardware and program platforms is executed together with HDS. After that specialists of IT department "OTKRYTIYE-Broker" conducted migration of applications and services on the new platform independently.

At the end of 2013 the company increased the volume of DWH. Are purchased additional by SAS - and SSD disks together with the license for multilevel storage.

Project Results

The advantages got by a DB "OPENING" after the implementing solution HDS:

  • consolidation of business and critical resources on a single cloud platform;
  • economy on the hardware
  • increase in extent of virtualization of systems from 30% to 60%;
  • reduction of the area of the rented racks in DPC;
  • reduction of time of creation of own development tools and testing;
  • guarantee of availability of the critical virtualized services.

The implementing solution HDS allowed to increase security, flexibility and system performance, to cut down expenses on energy consumption and the hardware.
