Cherkizovo: transition from Oracle to PostgreSQL is a trend

The head of strategic projects of the Cherkizovo groupDenis Gorbunov, speaking at a conference of TAdviser an EDMS/ECM Day in March, 2016, advised the companies to gain experience of use of the software with the open code since similar solutions become more and more, and they purchase the increasing popularity. He noted that Cherkizovo has an experience of use and proprietary products, and open source of solutions, and the company is very happy with the last.

Products with the open code are used in Cherkizovo, for example, for the organization of electronic document management. In 2012 the company implemented EDMS based on Alfresco, and since 2014 began OpenText implementation. As of the beginning of 2016 both solutions are used. Afterwards the company is going to transfer all processes of electronic document management to OpenText.

Denis Gorbunov estimates experience of use of the Open source software in Cherkizovo as positive

Denis Gorbunov noted that the Open source software in a segment of corporate business applications is submitted still not really widely: "Places it "shoots", but solutions equally well, as in the field of the user solutions, operating systems, so far not".

At the same time, I think, it is a matter of time. The software with the open code will reach also business applications. I would advise the companies to get experience of use of open source of solutions. The further, the their will be more, - the head of the Cherkizovo strategic projects noted.

Humpbacks gave analogy to the server software where Linux share steadily grew in recent years: if at the beginning of the 2000th of Windows Server was practically a monopolist, then now Linux on servers is used by many companies.

For example, according to the report of Enterprise End User Trends Report 2014 prepared by Linux Foundation and Yeoman Technology Group on the basis of poll of the large companies, 75% of the enterprises used Linux as the main platform for deployment of clouds. More than 87% of the polled companies added to themselves in reporting year of Linux servers, and 82% were going to increase still their number next year. Denis Gorbunov noted that in Cherkizovo are configured always where perhaps to use Linux.

It is used in Cherkizovo and DBMS with the open code PostgreSQL, Gorbunov told. Alfresco, for example, works at it, and the company is happy with this DBMS. According to the head of the Cherkizovo strategic projects, the main part of an IT command of the company has experience with Oracle DBMS, and at first thought on it to start Alfresco, being afraid to use the Open source software.

Having used PostgreSQL, we as a result appeared more than are happy with this DBMS. It is very good example. Now it is a trend and, I think, we will see many cases of replacement of Oracle DBMS by PostgreSQL, - Gorbunov told.

During the performance the head of the Cherkizovo strategic projects also cited the founder of the movement of the open source Richard Stallman that "not free programs are the predatory social system dominating over people, separating them and using the got profit for achievement of a bigger domination".
