In mid-April 2021, Volvo Cars signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Chinese company Didi Chuxing, under which the fleet of unmanned vehicles DiDi Autonomous Driving will be replenished with Volvo self-driving vehicles.
Volvo Cars will provide DiDi XC90 vehicles equipped with the necessary backup steering and braking systems and will collaborate with DiDi Autonomous Driving to integrate the additional software and hardware needed to be fully ready for autonomous driving.
XC90 cars will be the first to be equipped with the Gemini DiDi, a new hardware platform for autonomous driving. DiDi The platform is equipped with a processing power of 700 TOPS and includes about 50 different sensors. Obstacles are detected through the collaboration of lidars, radars, cameras, as well as other sensors. The system effectively estimates the situation within 300 m around the car, despite the darkness, rain or fog. Didi Gemini meets the highest safety standard of ASIL D. It is assumed that XC90 cars will be used for the further development of the DiDi network.
DiDi Gemini, our new hardware platform for unmanned driving, includes critical equipment improvements resulting from our test passenger operations in Shanghai. As Volvo Cars leader in security, we look forward to new stages in the development of autonomous transport services, "said Bob Zhang, CEO of DiDi Autonomous Driving and Technical Director of Didi Chuxing. |
In 2020, Volvo Cars first provided DiDi XC60 cars for use in an experimental robotaxi program in Shanghai. Then people in certain areas of Shanghai could book trips for robotaxi in the application DiDi, the trip was carried out without a driver, but the driver and safety specialist still monitored the movement of the car on the road remotely.[1]
