To the coming months of Volvo Cars will also provide a line of soft hybrid models (mild hybrids), starting with petrol and diesel versions of XC90 and XC60.
In soft hybrids the system of recuperation of kinetic energy when braking which in combination with traditional internal combustion engines forms the new electrified power unit mentioned by the letter "B" will be for the first time implemented.
The power unit created using technology of electric control of the brake system will provide to 15% more economical fuel consumption and the reduced amount of emissions in the environment in actual practice of traffic.
The system of electric control of the brake system interacts with the system of energy recuperation, turning kinetic energy when braking into electric, used then for acceleration of the car. It allows to reduce costs on fuel and amount of emissions in the atmosphere.
According to the strategy of electrification and in response to unprecedentedly high demand of Volvo Cars redistributed the production capacities in such a way that up to 25% of total production will fall on the connected hybrid electric vehicles with Twin Engine power units. In addition, the company expects that power units with the designation "B" gradually will become the new standard of a complete set of cars that will allow to approach even more strategy implementation of electrification of all lineup by 2025.
The full-size Volvo cars created on the basis of architecture of the scalable SPA platform (Scalable Product Architecture) will receive new and advanced power units.
The updated connected hybrids of T8 Twin Engine with a power up to 420 hp will be equipped with the new battery and the system of electric braking and energy recuperation. Thanks to it it was succeeded to increase approximately by 15% a run without refueling for cars with the T8 unit available on all models of the 60th and 90th series.
Will receive the battery and the system of electric management of braking as well upgraded version of the connected hybrid of T6 Twin Engine. This version of the power unit available to the V60 station wagon and the S60 sedan, also gives 15 percent increase in range of an autonomous run.
The full-size XC90 SUV in option of a complete set B5 will be available in the form of a diesel or petrol soft hybrid.
For XC60 at choice soft hybrid B5 power units with the diesel or petrol engine, B4 with the diesel engine and B6 with the petrol engine will be offered. B5 option with the petrol internal combustion engine will be made both with front, and with the four-wheel drive.
Electrification will not avoid also compact cars of the company. It is about XC40 model created on the basis of the platform of compact modular architecture (Compact Modular Architecture). It will be equipped with the hybrid connected T5 Twin Engine power unit with petrol DVS. Soon after that the second option of a complete set with the connected hybrid T4 Twin Engine installation will become available.
