2017: Announcement
On November 17, 2017 the Tesla Motors company provided the first truck on electric draft. Its stated stock of the course exceeds 800 km.
The electrotruck under the name Tesla Semi Truck received four independent engines — on one on each back wheel. With their help the vehicle will be able to execute rather complex maneuvers and also independently to prevent "folding" of the truck.
From technical details it is known what will be able to disperse from 0 to 100 km/h in 5 seconds, and at loading weighing 36 tons does it in 20 seconds. Maximum speed at the movement uphill reaches 104 km/h at regulation about 70 km/h for traditional trucks.
The truck price in the company was not set. The founder and the head of Tesla Elon Musk noted that cargo delivery by such machine will cost $1.26 for mile while work of diesel trucks costs about $1.51. The Bloomberg agency estimates at $100 thousand the cost of big rechargeable batteries in Tesla Semi Truck.
According to the producer, the electrotractor with completely loaded semi-trailer on cruising speed in 60 miles (97 km) is per hour capable to pass 500 miles (805 km) without recharge. For the Tesla trucks is going to unroll new network of charging stations which will be able to charge 80% of the battery that will be enough for 640 km of a way for half an hour.
Diesel trucks can overcome up to 1.6 thousand kilometers with a complete tank, and their Tesla Semi 20% cheaper in operation, Musk said.
On the innovation presentation it was also noted that aerodynamics of the truck is better, than at the Bugatti Chiron sports car. In Tesla Semi Truck there will be an auto pilot which will help drivers to hold the car in a band and to brake in emergency situations.
Start of serial production of Tesla Semi Truck is planned for 2019.[1]
