2017: Price and start date of sales
In December, 2017 the producer of the sports Aston Martin cars disclosed the cost of the first electric car and also designated start date of sales.
According to the Car and Driver edition with reference to the CEO of Aston Martin Andy Palmer (Andy Palmer), the electric vehicle RapidE will cost $255 thousand, and its emergence in the market is planned for 2019. However, the machine will be available in a limited number — only in 155 copies.
Engineers of Aston Martin took the existing Rapide sedan of 2010 based on the DB9 chassis of 2004 as RapidE basis. The place of the petrol V12 motor under a cowl was taken by the control block developed by Williams Advanced Engineering company which delivers "stuffing" for race cars of electric Formula E and the traction battery is located in the central tunnel of the hatchback.
The prototype of RapidE shown in 2017 had the back drive and one electric motor with power about 550 hp. On one charging of such RapidE can pass about 200 miles (more than 320 km).
The first electric car from Aston Martin is positioned as the direct competitor to the Tesla Model S P85D sedan which is equipped with two electric motors with power about 700 hp. However RapidE will appear more than twice more expensively than all-wheel drive Model S.
According to Andy Palmer, RapidE is developed in a format of the exclusive project and will exceed Tesla electric cars in everything.
For me Tesla — very strong competitor of Daimler, BMW, Audii of bonus cars, other in the market. But they are not in the market of luxury machines at which we work … Most of buyers of Model S are limited to the choice — they buy this electric vehicle not because they have no money but because in the market there are no other offers. We decided to make the car rare therefore it without doubts will be expensive — the head of Aston Martin said.[1] |
