2017: Record stock of the course
On September 19, 2017 the American producer of electric motor transport Proterra announced passing electric vehicle of record distance without recharge.
The Catalyst E2 bus equipped with electric motors passed 1101 miles (about 1772 km) on roads of the USA. The former maximum stock of the course made nearly 1014 miles, but it was set by the passenger electric car which weighs 46 times less Catalyst E2, the commercial director of Proterra Matt Horton noted.
However, for achievement of a record Catalyst E2 moved with a small speed — about 24 km/h.
The Catalyst E2 electrobus more than 12 meters high is equipped with accumulators with a general capacity of 660 kilowatt-hour. According to Horton, products of the company cost about $750 thousand whereas the prices of normal diesel buses are about $500 thousand. Buyers of Proterra transport save on operating costs, said in the company.
The electric cars expected transportation of a large number of passengers have now those opportunities which are necessary to them. We will even more focus on reduction in cost — the top manager of Proterra said. |
The main problem for electrical machines of high loading capacity is the big mass of accumulators, however Catalyst E2 weighs less, than the road train, even at a full load of passengers, Horton noted. The company developed batteries together with South Korean LG Chem.
In June, 2017 Proterra attracted $55 million investments therefore the general amount of receipts from investors reached $350 million.
In 2016 Proterra sold 190 electrobuses. As Matt Horton reported, in the 2017th high sales are expected "much more".
The underdeveloped network of charging stations though the Proterra cars use the commonly accepted industry standard of J1772 CCS remains one of the main problems on the way of mass distribution of electric buses.[1]
