2021: Plan to launch a facial recognition system in 100 schools

On April 5, 2021, information appeared that 100 schools in Nizhny Novgorod would launch a facial recognition system in 2021.

14 million rubles were allocated to finance the project. It is assumed that video surveillance cameras in educational organizations integrate with the Safe City agro-industrial complex, so that data will be processed in the Black List system.

The creation of a safety system in schools involves the installation of turnstiles, video cameras on input groups, readers and integration with the fire alarm system. As of April, digital profiles of schoolchildren are being formed. At the same time, the administration of Nizhny Novgorod emphasized that it would not be possible to fully launch the student face recognition system due to the requirements of the legislation regarding the processing of data of persons who have not reached the age of majority.[1]

2020: Plan to equip 76 schools with facial recognition systems

In 76 schools in Nizhny Novgorod will introduce a face recognition system. This became known on November 3, 2020.

Educational institutions will be equipped with a video surveillance system with facial recognition until the end of 2020. Until 2022, the system will work in all schools in Nizhny Novgorod.

In addition, it was decided to connect cameras to the Safe City agro-industrial complex, as well as to interface this system with the food payment system. They will be tied to one student card, which will serve as both a pass to school and a means of payment in the school canteen.

Earlier it became known that Nizhny Novgorod was among the pilot regions where the face recognition system will be tested.

In one of the cities of the Volga region, about 3 thousand cameras will be connected to the face recognition system. The devices will be installed, first of all, at public transport stops, crowded places and doorphones. Some of the CCTV cameras will be equipped with video analysis by the end of 2020 - this is more than 350 stops, each of which will have four cameras, of which two or three will be with facial recognition. Intelligent video surveillance will be used to track down offenders, as well as establish the facts of violation of quarantine measures. In the near future, data from cameras at stops can be used to predict the workload of public transport and optimize traffic flows[2].
