The Anton Chekhov Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk airport will install modern protection systems against unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), spending 295 million rubles on this . This became known on June 24, 2024. The move is aimed at securing airspace and preventing potential threats from drones.
A hardware and software complex will be introduced at the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk airport, including the Raccoon radar stations and the Polyana unmanned aircraft countermeasures system. The corresponding tender was published on the public procurement website on June 7, 2024, and the winner of the competition will be announced on July 9 of the same year.
The Raccoon radar stations were developed by the SPC and are designed to detect moving objects, including drones, aircraft and even birds. Stations automatically determine the distance, azimuth and radial speed of detected targets, which allows them to be efficiently tracked. To fully cover the airport, three stations were installed on masts 20-30 meters high.
The Polyana system carries out continuous radio surveillance and detection of UAV signals, forming countermeasures to protect the airport territory. It is capable of detecting and identifying signals from various types of drones, including those controlled by DJI, Wi-Fi and LTE/4G protocols. The complex operates both in automatic mode and with the ability to manually control the operator.
The system operates in a closed loop without access to public data networks, which provides a high degree of security. It is integrated into the NEST-M digital platform, which automates incident management and helps you make decisions quickly.[1]
