ER-Telecom and Nokia will jointly test the 5G network in Moscow

Project date: 2021/02  - 2021/03

2021: Start 5G Testing

On March 15, 2021, ER-Telecom Holding JSC (TM "Дом.ru" and "Дом.ru Business") and Nokia announced the signing of an agreement and the start of testing the capabilities of 5G networks in the broadband segment for business.

Earlier, the State Commission on Radio Frequencies (GKRCH) allocated ER-Telecom Holding for testing 5G ranges of 4.8-4.99 GHz and 27 GHz. The company plans to test 5G in more than 50 pilot zones, including points in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The high speeds provided by 5G technology in high frequency bands are the basis for creating wireless broadband access (WLAN) networks. These BSD services will become available in areas where it is not possible to lay cable communication channels or where fast service launch is required.

5G solutions allow subscribers to gain experience in using virtual reality applications, instantly upload video in ultra-high resolution, and significantly expand the capacity of the broadband access network.

For testing, Nokia's 5G base stations from the Airscale line will be used, with good capacity and energy efficiency: the Nokia AirScale System Module, in the maximum configuration, allows serving up to 84Gbit/s, and a compact active antenna mmWave.

The project will last until March 31, 2021.

ER-Telecom plans to carry out load tests on a fragment of the 5G network based on Nokia equipment, the purpose of which is to check the potential of 5G technology within the range allocated to us. We are exploring the possibility of creating an infrastructure "operator for operators" in the near future. As part of this approach, cellular companies will be able to connect their base stations to our fiber optic network, significantly reducing the cost of building their own infrastructure, "said Kirill Pishchalnikov, technical infrastructure director of ER-Telecom Holding JSC.

We are pleased to cooperate with ER-Telk Holding in testing the capabilities of 5G technology to provide broadband services and digital experience to users in Russia. ER-Telecom Holding joins global telecom operators with whom Nokia cooperates in the field of 5G. With a good portfolio of solutions, experience and capabilities for deploying 5G networks in the world and in Russia, Nokia actively collaborates with all interested players in the industry ecosystem and unleashes the huge potential of 5G for business and end users. As of March 2021, Nokia entered into 196 commercial agreements in the field of 5G, of which 146 are contracts for the deployment of commercial 5G networks, "said Demetrio Russo, vice president of Nokia in the Eastern Europe region.
