"The Samara plant "Elektroshchit" increased reliability of data storage thanks to COMPAREX

On October 13, 2016 the COMPAREX company announced project completion on upgrade of infrastructure of data storage for the company "The Samara plant "Elektroshchit".

Choosing a Solution

Due to the increase in capacities of production the volume of the stored information increased, at the same time systems capabilities of data storage (DWH) are crucial for the plant. However the available equipment did not allow to increase actively capacities of storage and had no tools on effective and operational selection of resources. Failures in work of an obsolete equipment and a lack of performance could lead to decline in quality of operation of applications. Due to the increase in requirements to opportunities of DWH and to quality of work in the whole IT the plant's management made the decision on upgrade of infrastructure of data storage.

When choosing a system of DWH the IT management was guided by functional characteristics, compatibility of software and hardware tools, scaling options and also total cost of ownership the solution. The high scalability, reliability, universality and flexible tools for selection of resources of data storage were one of the main functional selection terms of the solution.

Project Results

According to the results of consideration of several systems from leading manufacturers of DWH, the best ratio of the set criteria showed the solution proposed by COMPAREX company, FAS2552 system from Netapp which represents family best in the industry unified by DWH. Existence in NetApp of function of deduplication of data which considerably increases efficiency of storage became one of key selection terms of DWH of Netapp for "The Samara plant "Elektroshchit". This technology allows to store information at decrease to 95% of the occupied space. Besides, unified access to DWH (under SAN and NAS protocols), data protection using the patented Snapshot technology, flexible selection of resources and a broad spectrum the politician using which it is possible to manage flexibly a system and to select resources will help the plant to provide the increased performance, flexibility of a system of input outputs and to protect investments for future development.

The system of FAS2552 series from NetApp allowed the plant to increase twice storage capacities, to reduce the need for disk space to 95% and more effectively to distribute the available resources.
